William F. Baker returned last week from Asheville where he spent a week with friends. Mr. and Mrs. J. Thornton Mac Donald have returned to their home here for the remainder of the season. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McGraw of Oakmont, Pa., have arrived for the season. Guests of Mrs. Raymond S. Farr are her niece, Mrs. Luther Breck, Jr., and daughters, Mar go and Sally. Mrs. Ernest J. Hartsell andMrs. Roy Swink were co-hostesses to the Woman’s Circle of th'ei Com munity Church Woman’s Auxil iary last Tuesday evening at the Hartsell home. Mrs. Earle Petro was Bible leader. Miss Dorothy Wescott and Miss Evelyn Garner were weekend guests of Miss Flora EUen Cam eron at Woman’s College, Greensboro. Mrs. Francis D. Merson and Stephen returned to their home in Cerisco, Mich. Saturday leav ing by plane from Winston-Sa lem at three p. m. and were home at seven p. m. They have been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis McKenzie for two months. Rotary In the absence of the president, vice-president Joe Allen presid ed over the Rotary club meeting last week, which was high light ed by a speech by the Rev. D. E. Earnhardt of Rockingham, dis cussing the topic, “Elemental Things.’’ The club voted to co operate with the Jaycees in their program for taking care of the Christmas needy families. Methodists The Rev. M. E. Tyson of Bis- coe was the guest speaker at the Men’s club on Tuesday evening dinner meeting of the Methodist at 7:00 o’clock. Improved Friends are glad to learn that Mrs. George Thomas, who has been quite ill, is now much im proved. Attend Ranford Meeting Rev. and Mrs. John Cline and Herbert Poole attended the Fay etteville District Set Up meeting held in Sanford last Friday morning. Representatives of eight counties attended the meet ing to make plans and set up goals for the coming year. Baptists Rev. Ottis Hqger closed a meeting at Bethlehem last week with nine professions of faijth and one hundred rededications. All meetings were attended by good crowds. A special service was held Sun day night at the Baptist church at which time the Rev. Carl E. Bjork of Goldston presented a sound picture, “The Payoff.” Mr. Bjork is a w:ax crayon artist, and he gave an illustrated sermon also. He is supply pastor of the her of Southern Pines people and he brought with him a num ber 'of Sou(tl:|[?m Pines people who rendered special music. On Thursday evening the Yates-Jennings Sunday School class entertained at a Christmas party at the Community house. The Women’s Season of Prayer was held this week on Monday and Tuesday, afternoon . and ev ening with the various circles conducting in rotation. Burned by Sparkler Jane Carter, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Carter, sus tained a rather severe burn on the abdomen when the front of her dress caught fire fropi a lighted sparkler with which she was playing. Mrs. Carter’s hands also were burned from beating out the flames. Music Club The Carthage Music Club met on Saturday afternoon with Mrs. W. S. Golden. The program was on hymns. Refreshments, and a social followed the musical num bers.
