Page Four THE PILOT, Southern Pines, North Carolina Friday, April 11, 1947. 1\ Society and Personals of the Sandhills Southern Pines Couple Wed Easter Sunday The marriage of Eleanor Har- loe Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wiijfred H. Mumford, Sou thern Pines, to James Herbert Caldwell, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Caldwell of Hallison, N. C., was an event of Easter Sunday, April 6. The vows were spoken at twelve-thirty noon in the Church of Wide Fellowship with the Rev. Tucker G. Humphries, pastor of the • church, officiating. The altar was oamiett with pine boughs and galax, with Easter lily plants. White tapers in seven branched candelabra were light ed before the ceremony by the ushers. For wedding music Mrs. L. D. McDonald, organist, played Ethelbert Nevin’s ‘‘Rosary” and accompanied the choir when they sang “Tis Thy Wedding Morning” from ‘‘The Rose Maiden” cantata. Solos were sung by Wesley 3toltz, baritone!, d’Hardelot’s “Because,” and for the benedic tion the “Lord’s Prayfer” by Mal- lotte. The traditional wedding marches were used. The bride was given in mar riage ■ by her father. She wore a suit of gold wool gabardine with black accessories and pink gloves, with a John 'Frederick’s model black straw hat with pink and green veiling. Her arm bouquet was fashioned of mixed flowers, and centered with corsage of Talisman roses which she wore on her wedding trip. Mrs. Myron G. Adams of Ra leigh attended ber sister as ma tron of honor. She wore a powder blue dress with navy accessories, small flower covered hat with veiling in back, and long sixteen button gloves. Her arm bouquet matched the bride’s in design. Herman McLean of Burlington was best man for his brother-in- law. Ushers were Philip Eskridge Kennedy, Jr., of- Westminster, Md., and Myron G. Adams, Jr., of Raleigh, nephews of the bride. Carnations formed the- corsages for the mothers of the bride and groom. White for Mrs. Mumford who wore a black two-piece dress with powder blue accessories, and pink for Mrs. Caldwell who wore a two-piece dress of navy blue crepe. Following the ceremony the couple left for a two weeks’ trip to Washington, D. C., and New York State. They will return to Southern Pines and to be at home in their apartment on West Ver mont Avenue. Mrs. Caldwell, Jr., is a gradu ate of Southern Pines High School and attended WCUNC at Greensboro. She is a graduate of Duke School of Nursing in Dur ham and has been on duty at Moore County Hospital for the past ikw months. The bridegroom' completed high school at Car thage and served for over seven years in the Army, which includ ed thirty-seven months overseas ceived his discharge last Septem ber as master sergeant in the 176th Infantry. Out of town guests at the wed ding were Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Kennedy and son, Philip, Jr., of Westminister, Md.; Mr and Mrs. Myron G. Adams and sons, My ron, Jr., and Harloe, of Raleigh; Mr. and Mrs. Hermon McLean of Burlington; Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Hall, Asheboro; Mr. and Mrs. John Cox, Indianapolis, Ind.; and Mrs. R. J. Foster of Carbondale, Pa. Rehearsal #Party, and Miscellaneous Shower George Richardson. Mrs. Richard son returned Saturday from Bark sdale Field, La., where Capt. Rich ardson has been stationed since January. He is now in Denver, Col., for a two months advance training course. Bridge Club Miss Elizabeth Eberle was hostess to member of the Dutch Treat Club at their supper and bridge party last Saturday night at her home on North May street. Three tables of bridge were in play during the evening with Mr. and'Mrs. William Benson, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Patch, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. William Wilson,' Mr. and Mr. and Mrs, W. H. In the center was a four tiered cake in white, topped with miniature bride and groom... The hostess was assisted by Mrs. P. E. Kennedy in serving punch, and by Mrs. M. G. Adams in serving cake, nuts and mints Guests included the bridal party, members of the Church of Wide Fellowship choir and out of town guests. A pre-nuptial shower on Fri day night, March 28, honored the bride-elect. The party was given by Miss Betty Davenport at the Nurses’ Home, and guests were the night duty nurses at Moore County Hospital. Many lovely gifts were received by the hon- oree, and at refreshment time an Cathey Sue Nolan Mr. and Mrs. Billy C. Nolan announce the birth of a daughter on Friday April 4, at Moore County Hospital, They have chosen Cathey Sue for her name. They also have a son, Bobby,’ three and a half-years old. Wedding Anniversary The third wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Claxton was observed Wednesday night, April 2, when they were the guests of honor at a party at thi Village Inn Supper Club. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Claxton, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Reese, Miss Helen Cameron, Miss Jean Wil liams, Mr. and Mrs. William Wur- gaw of Akron, Ohio, Bob Cam eron and Bob Arey. On Saturday afternoon, April 12, in Carthage members of Al fred Moore Chapter, DAR, -will dedicate a marker in honor of the memory of Mrs. George Calvin Graves, past member of the Chap ter. The meeting will be two-thirty at the honae of Mrs. M. J. Mc- Phail, with Mrs. J. L. McGraw and Mrs. M. G. Boyette as host esses. The marker will be placed at the grave and the ritual given by Mrs. T. B. Melvin of Sanford, Chapter chaplain, who will also place the marker. Members of Mrs. Graves’ family will be pres ent.
