Mr. Gladstone told of the work of his G. I. students, and men tioned some of the practical re sults being obtained by the prac tice of improved farming meth ods and farming according to a yearly plan. A question and an swer period followed his talk. Mrs. Finch spoke briefly, and Mrs. S. R. Smith gave a news summary, based on the North Carolina Clubwomqn. Mrs. N. N. McLean presided over the business session, during which plans for holding a flower exchange at the home of Mrs. H. C. Callahan on Wednesday, Oct ober 13, at 4 p. m„ were comple ted. Plans for attending the dis trict meeting were also discussed. Mrs. W. E. Gladstone^ distribu ted the club’s new ye*ar books, which she was in charge of mak ing, and they were highly prais ed. The book is dedicated to Mrs. W. J. Cameron, the eldest char ter member, in these words: “To our beloved ‘Aunt Sue,’ Mrs. W. J. Cameron, a charter member whose example of real goodness and sweet Christian character has ever inspired us to greater thoughts and deeds; whose loyal ty to and continued interest in the Club that she loves have served as incentives to make us better club members; and whose wise counsel has guided us to the path which leads only to the righteous and good, we lovingly and loyally dedicate this our Year Book.” During the social hour an auto mobile contest was enjoyed. Church News Dr. John A. McLean, for 20 years pastor of Ginter Park Pres byterian church in Richmond, Va., was guest speaker at the Presbyterian church Sunday morning, coming over from Max- ton, where he was visiting, at the special invitation of his friend of seminary days and since, the Rev. C. K. Taffe, pastor. Mr. Mc Lean brought a mesage of hope and comfort based on “The Con solation of Jesss” that was en joyed by a large congregation. Special music was a feature of the service. The ministers were entertained at dinner in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hicks and Mrs. Flora Hicks. At the Methodist church the two young ministers, A. Mac Cameron and Fred Davis, were again present with the pastor, the Rev. T. J. Whitehead. Fred read the scripture lesson and A. Mac preached an excellent ser mon, with poise that would do credit to a person of much long er experience. There was special music by the young people, aid ed by a few adults A number of visitors were in the congregation, including some of A. Mac’s relatives from Buies Creek and Cameron. Revival services began Sunday night at the Baptist church, and will continue each evening through the week, at 7:45 p. m. The pastor, the Rev. L. M. Dixon, is being assisted by the Rev. Yancey Elliott and Emory Mat thews, song leader, both of San ford. The public is cordially in vited to attend. The Rev. T. J. Whitehead will preach at the Methodist church next Sunday morning at 11, and the Rev. G. K. Taffe will conduct an evening service at the Pres byterian church at 7:30. Personals Dr. Herman Parker, a member of the Wake Forest college facul ty who has been studying in a California university during the summer, returned Wednesday of last week and visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Parker, until Saturday, when he was accom- 'panied back to Wake Forest by his wife and two children, who had been with Dr. Parker’s rela tives for the summer. Mr, and Mrs. Purvis Thomas have a new son, Philip Douglas, born at Moore County hospital September 5. This brings the number of their living children to seven. Edgar Oldham went to Duke hospital Monday for a routine check-up. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Loftin and children, Barry, Grant and San dra, spent the weekend with rel atives at High Point and Denton. Their niece, Miss Faye Atkins, who had been visiting in the Lof tin home for several weeks, re turned to her home. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Parker and children, Eunice and David, en joyed a trip to White Lake and family called on Mr. and Mrs. T. K. Atkinson, of Southern Pines Sunday afternoon. J. L. McKay and Miss Martha McKay, of Buies Creek, were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Cameron. Mrs. Cameron ac companied them to Morganton Saturday to visit their mother, who is receiving treatment at Broad Oaks sanatarium. Mrs. John Clark, Mrs. Tew and Mrs. Lewis, of Greensboro, were guests of Mrs. Clark’s sister, Mrs. A. L. Keith, Thursday of last week. Mrs. J. R. Thomas, of Raleigh, arrived Monday for a visit with her sister, Mrs. W. J. Cameron, and Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Smith. From Vass she plans to go to Cor nelius to visit her daughter, Mrs. Carl Cashion, and family. Angus McKay Cameron left the the middle of the week for New York to enter Union Theological seminary. Mrs. C. J. Temple has been a patient at Moore County hospital since Thursday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Misses Frances and Germaine Davis left last week for ECTC in Greenville, where Frances is a senior and Germaine a freshman. Their brother, Fred, will enter Duke divinity school this week. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Johnson and family, of Thomasville, were visitors in town Wednesday of last week. Mr. Johnson was for merly a member of the staff of Vass Industries, Inc. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Gladstone visited his parents, near Greens boro, a day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Edwards are on a motor trip to New York. They plan to stop in Washington, also, on their sight-seeing trip.
