r Page Eight THE PILOT—Southern Pines, Mortn Caroiine Friday. December 8. 1950 C OF C (Continuea from Page 1) ganized and will function under] sponsorship of the Chamber of Commerce^ The new office is now under going complete renovation and re- decoration and will be ready within two or three weeks, ac cording to present expectations. 'Oie next meeting of the Chamber directors, to be held Tuesday eve ning, December 12, will be in the old office. The Chamber office was moved from the Civic Club building in November 1948, when Arthur C. Reed, manager of the Belvedere hotel and a Chamber director for several years, partitioned off a space from the hotel lobby for the purpose. The space was later remodeled to provide a private office for the Merchants associa tion. / Plans to seek larger quarters on the main street were discussed at the first meeting of the present board, and George Pottle was named diairman of a committee to find them. Horn, Shelby. The group spent the mOTning in a field trip on the Hoffman area. before coming to Southern Pines, where they lunched at downtown restaurants before starting their meeting about 3 p. m. POST OFFICE (Continued from Page 1) cards, letters and parcels delivered promptly. The public | must cooperate, however, if this is i to be a complete success, by mail ing early, wrapping carefully, ad dressing clearly and accurately. Christmas eve falls on a Sunday this year but they will keep right on delivering till midnight if nec essary, said the postmaster, in the effort to get all mail and packages to their destinations by Christmas day. And on Monday, December 25, not a thing will be stirring in that post office. It will be the staff’s one complete holiday of the year, and they’ll need it. ORMSBY ROBBERY (Continued on Page 8) being used as a wastebasket, and apparently carried their loot away in it. ■ A heavy curved bush-axe, mur- d^ous looking weapon used to effect their entry, was left on the theatre lobby floor, where all the bits of broken glass were careful ly swept under the carpet. The robbery was accurately timed, taking place between check made by the police at 2:45 aiid the next at about 3:15, when the store lights were observed to be out. The policemen vary their nightly schedule. Footprints in the sandy soil at the stage entrsmce showed where one p»son had apparently paced as he stood lookout duty, while one, or two, cmnpanions did the dirty work. "AHCie" Says; Cautious today — conscious to morrow. FIELD TRIALS (Continued from Page 1) in promotion of the annual event. The Reclamation area at Hoffman, where the Commission is develop ing a field trial course about 18 miles long, was accepted as the likely center of activities, to be the scene of field trials for which it is adapted with others to be held in other parts of the state. The steering committee will formulate policies and rules based on those of established field trials in other parts of the state, arrange for the procurement of trophies and set up subcommittees to handle various phases of the pro gram. They will also contact hand lers of Ihe various classes of dogs ■ and sportsmen who it is believed will be interested in the field trials and in helping to make them a success. With representatiWs to be ap pointed from Districts 1 and 9, Ihe committee so far consists of the following: District 2, B. W. Croom, Kin ston; 3, P. K. Gravely, Rocky Mount; 4, T. C, Scarborough, Rae- ford; 5, Ralph Daniel, Durham; 6, R. R. Rhyne, Charlotte; 7, Floyd F. Cmter, Winston-Salem; 8, C.
