North Carolina Friday* December 15. 1350 4-H Achievement Awards Will Mark Christmas Event Boys and Girls Will Meet Saturday At Carthage Moore County 4-H clubbers will celebrate a dual event at 2 p. m., Saturday at the Community build ing at Carthage—their annual Achievement day, and their Chrismas party. Boys and girls of Moore County clubs who have been adjudged winners of this year’s contests will receive their certificates and pins. Others will be honored for the completion of projects on which they have worked throughout the year. Contest winners among the girls have been announced as follows by Miss Barbara Connolly, assist ant home demonstration agent in charge of girls’ 4-H club work; Clean Seawell, Highfalls club. Farm and Home electric; Patricia Melvin, Jackson Springs club, home and grounds beautification; Gloria Parks, Carthage club, clo thing achievement; Margaret Grimm, Carthage club, tree study; Peggy Blue, Farm .Life club, pro duction and marketing; Helen Rose Pressley, Carthage club, poultry. / The program will include games and Christmas refreshments. Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Garner and Mrs. Elva Garner visited in Sanford Monday. Mrs. R. E. Matthews and sons of Carthage Route 3 and her motiier, Mrs. Weldon Guin, called on Miss Jennie McCrimmon Fri day afternoon. George K. Hanner, Mrs. Hanner and little daughter, Jeanette, of Greensboro came last Thursday for a visit with Mr, Hanner’s par ents, Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Hanner, returning home Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Bill Roth and children of Southern Pines spent Saturday with her mother, Mrs. Elva Gar ner. Mr. and Mrs. Oran Causey and daughter. Miss Gladys Causey, spent Wednesday afternoon in Carthage. Mr. and Mrs. Luke Nickens of Carthage and Mr. and Mrs. Hu bert Nickens of Cameron had Sun day dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Norman Eppler. Cox and Miss Jeanne Cox spent Sunday with relatives in Autreyville. '( Bill Core and little daughter of Richmond, Va., are visiting his mother, Mrs. T. J. Coore. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Bean of Charlotte also visited her over the week end. James Lee and Coker Blue of Fayetteville were home for the week end. Mrs. A. L. Ferguson of Cameron accompanied Mrs. H. D. Mclnnis to Fayetteville last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Mclnnis were in Carthage Monday. Mrs. Pete McRae has accepted a position on the nurses staff of Moore County hospital, and re ported for work Monday morning. Mrs. J. E. Caviness and son, Charles, made a business trip to Aberdeen Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Howe of Chapel Hill came down to see his aunt, Mrs. E. F. Pugh, last week. Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Hunter, Hugh, Jr., Charles and Jane were Sunday afternoon visitors of ktrs. H. D. Mclnnis. W. C. Hanner and wife and Mr. and Mrs. “PeeWee” Suggs of Dur ham stopped by for a short visit with relatives on their way to the Darlington, S. C., auto races. Mrs. Mae Bellet, Mrs. A. L. Fer guson and Mrs. ^Herbert Mclnnis called on Mrs. A. B. Parker and Mrs. Henry Parker in Vass on Sunday afternoon. Mrs. A. C. Cox, daughter Jeanne, and Mrs. T. J. Coore vis ited in Sanford Friday. Mrs. Pete McRae and Mrs. Bright McRae spent Friday in Raleigh. Mrs. J. E. Spence, Mrs. B. P. Gulledge, Mrs. H. A. Matthews and their sons spent the day in Fayetteville Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Cooper of Roanoke, Va., were week end guests of their daughter, Mrs. Tom MEANEST MAN Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Camp- belL elderly Lakeview couple, were visited by a stranger Monday of last week who frightened them out of a Hnall hoard of savings carefully laid aside in the event of sickness. The small moustached man made his way into their house tmder pretense of doingi^eUgi- ous work. He told them to bring him their Bible, and what money they had in the house. The old people, frigh tened and shy, did as they were told. The visitor cautioned them to mention his visit to no one, and at the end of three days their money and Bible would be returned At the end of seven days, he ssdd, they would both be well. As the realization came to them that they would never see stranger, Bible or money again, they told their neigh bors of the happening, and in that community the impostor is now regarded as the can didate for Meanest Man of the Year. Gulledge. Mrs. H. A. Matthews,.Mrs. Lew is Bellet and Mrs. H. D. Mclnnis were early morning Christmas shoppers in Southern Pines Mon day. Friends of Mrs. Pat Eastwood are glad to see her able to be back in the post office after a few days’ illness. Mrs. H. D. Jackson and Mrs. Herbert Monroe visited in Fay etteville Monday. Dr. and Mrs. Waylon Blue of Jonesboro Heights spent the week end at their cottage by the lal^. While here on Sunday evening, they had supper with Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Monroe. Mr. and Mrs. B. P. Gulledge were in Southern Pines Monday on business. Mrs. A. L. Ferguson of Cameron was a Sunday guest of Mrs. H. D. Mclnnis.
