needed. The Merchants Associa
tion retired recently as an inde
pendent organization and its di
rectors cleared it of aU debts' be
fore turning it back to its original
sponsor, the Chamber of Com
merce.

good evidence, that Highw^s 301
and 15 are getting the lion’s share
of the association’s promotional
efforts. With US 1 in better shape
than ever before, it was strongly
felt that some means should be
found to prevent the diversion of
tourist travel from it. Some plans
for accomplishing this were stud
ied.
Financial: Report
Details of the moving of the
Chamber office, and its cost, were
given by President Coleman,
along with a complete financial
report dating back to the time he
took office in October. Expendi
tures through December 31, total
ing $1,447.41, have included $517
paid on old bills; $529 for Christ
mas lighting, which included la
bor, and additional wire, sockets
and bulbs, all now stored in the
basement till next December; rent,
secretary’s salary, postage, office
supplies, and other items. Now
scraping the bottom of the money
barrel again, the Chamber can do
with the more than 50 per cent of
dues which remain impaid, he
stated, spurring the directors on
to continue their collection cam
paign.

cess of being set up by Garland
McPherson, he said, to go into op
eration probably this week.
