Page Eight THE PILOT—Southern Pines, North CareHna Friday, June 8> Tennis Finals On Local Courts Saturday, Sunday NAVAL STORES ITOWN SURVEY Semi-finals and finals in the Third Annual Moore County Clos ed Tennis tournament will be played Saturday night and Sun day afternoon on the municipal courts, possibly cotinuing through ■ Sunday evening. Trophies will be given to winners and runners-up by the Sandhills Tennis associa tion, tournament sponsor. Preliminary matches started Wednesday, scheduled all after noon and evening for the first three days. Audrey West Brown, 1950 women’s singles champion, who later won the state champion ship at Sedgefield, is not defend ing her Moore County title. In stead, the petite brunette vwith the deceptively masculine stroke is gaining experience in entering the men’s events. She was elimin ated in the men’s singles by Ed King of Pinehurst in a spectacu lar match Wednesday night. She is playing in the men’s doubles with Hugh Bowman of Aberdeen, former Carolina tennis star, and also in the mixed doubles with Walter Harper. Good spectator sport is being provided by the tournament, especially at night when the play goes on under the lights until around midnight. On ly a half-dozen colleges and uni versities offer training in this field. All of them together will have barely 50 graduates this year. With good jobs awaiting practically all of them, each must ‘interne” for several months m some city planning department after securing his M.A. before he can qualify to go to work on his own. Seward Weber graduated from Dartmouth in 1949. John R. Hampton graduated in fine arts at Carolina in 1941, and at Yale in 1944 in architectural engineering. Before returning to Carolina for his master’s degree, he was em ployed as an architectural engi neer by the Eastman Kodak com pany at Rochester, N.
