Page Eight THE PILOT—Southern Pines. North Carolina Friday. February 22. 19^ Stock Riding Shirt, New Arrow Item, Has World Premiere In Local Shop “The Eong of the Shirt” in Southern Pines this week is one of special interest for the horse- riding gentry—also for anyone interested in seeing big business meet a special need, and an ex clusive honor come to this resort town/ . The tangible evidence is the sel&tion of handsome riding shirts in the Tog Shop window— ■ stock shirts in beautiful Tattersall checks, the kind of thing which could formerly be obtained only on custoni order except at some big city shops, at a very special price. ■ . , TVie maVor’s name on the shirts is the well-known Arrow, and the price tag is about that of any good dress shirt. I No, this isn’t an ad—it’s a story. The shirts were desisned by W. p. Moss of Southern Pines and the first ones made arrived here this weak, pvalusive at the Tog Shoo '—and that means exclusive. It’s Ithe rilace. anywhere in the {world, they have been placed on ‘sale. Morehead Teams Make Clean Sweep of Series Returning the January visit here of the Morehead City ^bas- ketball teams. Southern Pines Jayvee and varsity squads went to Morehead last Friday for games Friday and Saturday night. While the Blue and White teams put up terrific battles Saturday night after dropping both games Friday, the resort city’s teams copped the 1952 series. The Jayvees went down 45-49 and 36-38, with the senior Blue and White team going down 59-75 and a hard fought neck-and-neck 66-72. to Fort Bragg has already been substantially reduced in time. With the case for the resort and the hunt now clearly stated in this second petition, signed by many whose interest in this sec tion has been evident in many ways for many years, it is felt thak the full picture of local opin ion regarding this question has been clearly drawn for the bene fit of those who must make the final decision. It all began a year ago when ©airy Liethead, president of the jciuett, Peabody company, makers of Arrow shirts, came to Southern Pines with several members of his board for some hunting with the Moore County Hounds. At Mile-Away Farm MFH Ozelle Moss broached a subject very much on his mind—why couldn’t some good shirt-maker, say Cluett, Peabody, make up the traditional riding shirt to wear with a stock, for sale at a reason able price? Members of the field set store by correct hunting clothes, and riding and hunting calls for many shirts. There were al?o many young people coming along in the hunt—promising youngsters, but for whom custom wardrobes could not be afforded. They should be able to go to a sto’-e and buy a shirt! Mr. Liethead had Mr. Moss sketch him off his idea ot a shirt, which he did, showing him the rounded collar-band, and gather ed sleeves. A few weeks later, along came some sample riding- shirts made by Arrow, their first, for both Mr. and Mrs. Moss. They were exactly right, and so Mr. Moss informed his shirtmaker friend. And Tuesday of this week, five dozen arrived at the Tog Shop; Miss Allie McIntosh went to Charlotte Tuesday to attend the Antique Show sponsored by the Charlotte Woman’s club. She plans to return today (Friday). Mrs. Catherine Shaw and Mrs. H. M. Patterson visited Mrs. J. U. Thrower and daughters. Misses Helen and Edith Meachum, in Robbins Sunday afternoon. If the stock shirts meet with success ‘ in Southern Pines they may become a regular Arrow item, to be placed on sale in othei- resorts where riding and hunting prevail, according to information received by C. S. Patch, Jr., Tog Shop nro-prietor. Proudly adding the shirts to his now-complete stock of ridine ac cessories, Mr. Patch de^oribed them for vour reporter as “Tatter- sail checks ,|n various colors on cotton twill fabric”—a sturdy, tra ditional garment, no longer just for custom trade. The petition carries the names of many well known in the com munity, of property owners along the proposed route as well as those in business, located in town. The hunt is represented by both masters, the owners -of all the large hunt and show stables in fhe surrounding area, as well as some who send horses here for the hunting season. Last week’s petition is the sec ond to be dispatched to commis sioner Coble and is in opposition to another, sent last fall, which urged construction of this route. With the army road paved to within a few miles of this end of the reservation, the remaining un paved route, of less than two miles in Moore County, remains to be decided on. As the time for tra versing the present unpaved route is less than five minutes, accord ing to reliable clocking, the trip HOUSES FOR SALE 2 bedrooms—$6,000. 3 bedrooms—2 baths—^New. 4 bedrooms—2 baths — $13,000 OTHERS Broadus W.
