Meets In Carthage The Alfred Moore Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met at the Carthage hotel Saturday afternoon, with Mrs. J. L. McGraw, Mrs. M. J. McPhail and Miss Ruth Tyson as hostesses. The regent, Mrs. R. P. Rosser, presided. Newly elected officers are: re gent, Mrs. W. G. Brown, Carth age; vice regent, Mrs. R. P. Rosser, Sanford; recording secretary, Mrs. R. B. Jordan, Gulf; corresponding secretary, Mrs. C. T. Grier, Car thage; treasurer. Miss Florence Campbell, Southern Pines; chap lain, Mrs. H. F. Seawell, Sr., Car thage; librarian, Mrs. J. T. John son, Aberdeen; and historian, Mrs. T. B. Melvin, Sanford. A playlet directed by Mrs. J. L. McGraw was given by ten mem hers in costume representing women who have made United States history. Background music was played on the piano 6y Mrs. M. J. McPhail, who selected fav orite tunes of the day of each character. The dining room was decorated with arrangements of flowers in patriotic colors. Party sandwiches, block cake, salted nuts, mints, tea and coffee were served by the hostesses. Music Club Elects New Officers Miss Ruth Tyson was hostess to the Carthage Music club Friday evening at her home on Pinehurst drive. Officers elected by the mem bers for the new club year were: president, Mrs. L. R. Sugg; vice president, Mrs. J. K. Roberts; sec retary, Mrs. W. G. Brown; treas urer, Mrs. Colin G. Spencer. Mrs. F. H. Underwood gave the study for the evening which was the completion of the book on American folk music. The biography of Johann Se bastian Bach was given by Mrs. George W. Blount. Miss Tyson played recordings of Bach’s com positions, “Cantata No. 131,” by the Robert Shaw Chorale, and “Taccata, Adagio and Fugue in C Major” played on the organ by E. Pov/er Biggs. During the social hour, open- faced sandwiches, French pastries and coffee were served. H. L. Miller Elected President Presbyterian Men Harvey Lee Miller was elected president of the Presbyterian Mien of the Fayetteville Presbytery at the annual meeting held at Flora Macdonald coUege in February. Another Carthage man, Lee Mc Donald, was elected secretary- treasurer of the Presbyterian or ganization. Briefs Mr. and Mrs. Jamie Loy have moved into their beautiful new home on the Pinehurst Drive. Mrs Loy is the former Miss Harriet McGraw. Mrs. E. S. Adams returned Sun day from the Moore County hos pital where she was a patient for two weeks. [ Miss Kay Boyette is' snending a week with her parents, Mi', and Mrs. M. G. Boyette, after comple ting her practice teaching in Dur ham. Miss Boyette is a senior at UNC. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hunt from High Point spent the weekend with their mother, Mrs. L. P. Ty son. Miss Prances Golden, assistant dean at Peace College, visited her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. W. S. Golden last weekend. Miss Josephine Cole of Raleigh spent the weekend at her home here. Miss Mary Louise McDonald, p Greensboro College student, spent the weekend with her parents. Mrs. Frank McDonald, Mrs. Eloise Mathis and A. D. 'Way at tended a concert in Greensboro recently given by the Glee Clubs of Greensboro College and UNC. Carthage was represented in the Greensboro College club bv Miss es Mary Louise McDonald and Joan Mathis. Sandy Thomas is a member of the UNC Glee Club.
