FRIDAY. JUNE 13. 1952 Man Has Fatal Attack In Car Belton Williams, 48, Negro, of Binehurst was the victim of a heart attack while in his car on West Broad street last Friday at 5:45 p. m. Passersby observed the man at the wheel of his car, parked in front of Leroy Lee’s, seemingly in a faint. Police and a physician were called, and it was establish ed that he was dead. 'He had his week’s groceries, just purchased, in the car. Appar ently feeling the attack coming on, he had reached a parking pace as soon as he could and was bumper-to-bumper with the car ahead. Williams was janitor at the Pine- hurst school for a number of years. He resigned several months ago on account of a heart condi tion, and had recently undergone hospitaliation for the same reason FOR RESULTS USE ’mS PI ' LOT’S CIjASSIFIED COLUMNS Bount Vemott Horton Goes With Asheboro Firm, Family Moving Mr. and Mrs. I. F. Horton, lead ing members of the West End community for the past seven years, will move July 1 to Ashe boro, where Mr. Horton has been made vice-president and genered manager of the Lucas National, Inc., furniture manufacturing firm. He has been connected with the Sandhill Furniture company at West End as business manager since 1945, and is regarded as one of the leading furniture men of the state. The Hortons moved to West End from Rocky Mount, Va. They have one child, Andy, aged eight They have purchased an attrac tive new home, partially complet ed, in Dogwood Acres, Asheboro. It is now being finished for them. They have sold their West End home to Mrs. Anna W. Cochran and her mother, Mrs. S. W. Wil son, of that community. At West End they have been ac tive in the First Presbyterian church, where Mr. Horton served as chairman of the board of dea cons, while Mrs. Hdrton was pres ident of the Women of the Church, a position she hds just resigned. She was secretary of the West End Womsm’s club, and also of District 9 of the State Federation of Women’s clubs. Mr. Horton is a past president of the West End Lions club. The final county report, delayed on account of delays in one or two of the county communities, show ed $2,186.73 collected for the N. C. Society for Crippled Children and its Moore County unit. In Southern Pines apd Manly, which had a combined quota of $300, the amount of $762 was con tributed. Totals for other county com munities were: Pinehurst, $272.50; Cameron, $16.75; Pinebluff, $60.30; Lakeview, $26.75; Jackson Springs, $48.70; Carthage, $166.81; Glendon, $10; Vass, $79.71; Aberdeen, $362.50; Rob bins, $320.71; West End, $60. The money was raised through the sale of Easter Seals, collec tion by coin containers and Easter Lily street sales held on Easter Saturday. Some of it goes to the N. C. Society'for use for crippled children on the statewide level, while the rest is retained in the county. The funds for county use are disbursed under supervision of the county welfare department, except when it is employed for special projects such as the spech clinic held here last summer. In this, too, the Moore County unit had the cooperation of Mrs. W. B. Miss Overton’s Mount Is Winner Two Knees, owned and ridden by Miss Jeanne Overton, won sec ond place in the jumper stakes at the Smithfield horse show Satur day night. This was the only event in which Two Knees was entered. Miss Overton, with her parents Mr. and Mirs. J. T. Overton of Southern Pines, were in Smith- field for the show as guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Upchurch. A pharmacy student at the Univer' sity of North Carolina, she return ed Tuesday to summer school at Chapel HiU. Nearly 75 per cent of the farms in the United States are now own er-operated, compared with only 58 per cent in 1930. Tennis Meeting Scheduled Monday The Sandhills Tennis associa tion will meet Monday at 8 p. m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank de Costa, Southern Pines Cot tages. All officers and directors should be prseent, also as many members as are interested, as plans for the summer are to be discussed, said Aii^elo Montesanti, Jr., president. The association will sponsor three tournaments in July and August, the Junior Invitational and Junior-Senior Doubles (in cooperation with the Junior Sand hills Tennis association) and the Fourth Annual Sandhills Invita tional.
