D. Sitterson, Mrs. Ida Lo- renson, Mrs. Sidney Evert, Mrs. Eleanor Caldwell, Mrs. Fred Chappell, Mrs. J. B. Eastwood, Mrs. R. L. Chandler, Sr., Mrs. William Dale, and Mr. and Mrs. Emery Smith. The Eastern Star members vis ited the guests in the home, saw the kitchen which was newly equipped as a major project of the organization last year, and enjoy ed a bounteous picnic dinner. The local group carried gifts to Miss Ada Beard, formerly of Southern Pines, whom they sponsor at the Home. WED IN FAISON HARVEST QUEEN ' Miss Dorothy Ann Swisher, 19- year-old Southern Pines heauty added another to her list of tri umphs last week when, as “Miss Aberdeen,” she was crowned “Harvest Jubilee Queen of 1952” at a coronation ball which cli maxed the Reidsville Harvest Jubilee. Her prize is $250 in cash. Second place winner was Mary Ann Taylor of Charlotte, and third, Shirley Stanley Council “Miss Wilmington.” MRS. Attend West-Huff Family Reunion Attend Convention Mr. and Mrs. Davis Salmon re turned Sunday from Florida, where they went to attend a three-day convention held by the Wear Ever Aluminum! company at Daytona Beach. Mr. Salmon brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Trever Bennington -and their family, of Peebles, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Schaefer of Asheboro were weekend guests of the latter’s mother, Mrs. R. S. Wiley, and Miss Katherine Wiley. Miss Nancy McClellan returned recently from a visit to relatives and friends in Washington, D. C., Richmond and Williamsburg, Va. She had been away since the mid dle of July. Miss Louise Milliken, daugljter of Dr. and Mrs. J. S. Milliken, is leaving Sunday for Chapel Hill to enter her senior year in college. Mrs. J. S. Milliken went to Ral eigh Wednesday to attend a coffee hour given by her sis ter, Mrs. J. B. Powell, honoring Mrs. Powell’s daughter, Mis^ Dor othy Powell, who is-roaking her debut tonight (Friday). Police Chief and Mrs. C., E. Newton are vacationing at Caro lina Beach for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Angelo Montesan- ti have gone to Arlington, Mass., to visit Mr. and Mrs. Terrenzio, Mrs. Montpsanti’s sister ' and brother-in-law. While there they will have a get-together of friends and relatives. Junior Montesanti has returned from Forest Hills, New York, af ter attending the tennis matches there. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon C. Clark of Minneapolis, Minn., have mov ed here and plan to make South ern Pines their home. MRS. Swift and Mrs. Mary Fields. Baptist Circles Hold Joint Meeting A joint rneeting of the four Circles of the Baptist church was held last week at the home of Mrs Fred Chappell. Mrs. Ray Chand ler led the devotions. Circles met separately for short business ses sions. During a social hoqr the group played Hearts, with Mrs. Tom Speer winning high score, and Mrs. William'Dale, low. Floating prize went to Mrs. Chandler. Re freshments were served. Mr. And Mrs. Patch Plan Motor Trip Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Patch, Jr., are leaving today (Friday) by au tomobile to take Cephas Patch back to Princeton, N. J., for the new college year. From there they will go to New York City for a few days, then return to Washington, D. C., for the open ing day, September 18, of the Na tional Celebrities Golf tourna- Margaret White Circle Meets The Margaret White circle of the Church of Wide Fellowship met Thursday at the home of Mrs. Broadus Smith' with Mrs. Clay ton McAdam conducting the open ing devotions and the chairman, Mrs. Marshall Palmer, presiding over the business session. Mrs. June Phillips was elected chairman to replace Mrs. Palmer, who has moved to Raleigh. At the close of the business session a lovely gift was presented to Mrs. Palmer in appreciation of her faithful service to the Circle. The meeting closed with a so cial hour, during which refresh ments were served. Family Dinner Held At Ruggles Home A family dinner party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Ruggles on North Ridge street Monday evening. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ruggles and their son Tommy were Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Ruggles, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Burns, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Ruggles, Jr., and Mrs. Walter Edwards, all of Southern Pines, and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ruggles of Kingsport, Tenn. Mrs. Mark King, Jr., Gets Birthday Surprise Mrs. Mark J. King, Jr., was giv en a birthday surprise Wednesday night that really was a surprise. She had dinner with Mrs. John Ormsby, and while there, her hostess received a telephone call that Mrs. Arthur Thomas wished to see Mrs. Ormsby in regard to BPO Doe activities, so Mrs. King accompanied her to the Thomas home. As theiy sat in the living room, a group of friends trooped in from an adjoining room singing^ “Happy Bithday” and presented gifts to Mrs. King. Presbyterian Circles Meet Circle 1 of Brownson Memorial Presbyterian church met Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs Royal A. Stutts with 13 present, including four visitors: Mrs. Cliff Cameron, Miss Mary Cameron Mrs. H. D. Jackson and Mrs Royal A. Stutts, Jr. Mrs. D. E Bailey led the Bible study and Mrs. Stutts, Jr., presefnted the Survey article. Circle 2 met Tuesday with Mrs. T. A. Jones. Nine members were present and two visitors, Mrs Harold McNeill and Mrs. Tom Sper. Mrs. R. P. Brown conducted the Bible study, and Mrs. W. C. Hilderman, the Survey. No. 4 met Monday evening with Mrs. Jimmy Springer. Mrs. George Heinitsh was in charge of the Bible study. Seven members, one new member, Mrs. Jean Nis- bett, and a visitor, Mrs. Price, were present. Colonial Employees Honor Former Manager All employees of the local Col onial store visited the home of their former manager, W. G. Music was furnished by Mrs Kathleen Merrill, organist, and Edgar Von-Legn, vocalist. The pulpit space was banked with woodwardia ferns and palms as a background for baskets of pink and white gladioli, baby’s breath and feverfew, and was lighted by white candles in tall standards. The bride’s floor-length wed ding dress was of white organdy suit with black accessories. Upon their return the couple will be at home in Richmond, Va. Mrs. Sadler is a graduate of Southern Pines High school. She attended Elon college two' years and was graduated from Burling ton Business college. She was a member of the Moore County Hunt and has won many trophies and ribbons for horsemanship. Mr. Sadler is a veteran of World War 2. He attended Elon college for two years, and plans to com plete his study of law at the Uni versity of Richmond. Jody Swearingen Celebrates Birthday Miss Betty Jo (Jody) Swearin gen, daughter of Mrs. Bessie Swearingen, celebrated her 16th birthday Saturday night with a pSrty at her home. Dancing was enjoyed, and refreshments of cokes, candy and potato chips were served. They plan to be away about a week. Miss Louise Caddell was honor ed at a birthday party given by Misses Harriet Lewis and Betty Jean Caddell Tuesday evening, at the home-of Mrs. Lela Lawrence. Upon arrival the girls were presented orchids and the young men were given handkerchiefs. During a series of games, coca- colas were served, and later in the evening cake and ice cream were enjoyed. Guests were Misses Louise Cad dell, Mary Hendricks, Edith Mar tin, Betty Sessoms, Martina Har ris, and Mary Elizabeth Hackney, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Woodruff, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Wilson, Mrs. Lela La'wrence, Hubert Miles, Bill Huddle, Terrell Grai^, Ray mond Willianis, Felton C. Her finger-tip veil of illu sion was trimmed with chantilly lace as was the heart-shaped cap to which it was attached. She car ried an arm bouqueut of pink roses. The matron of honor wore a ballerina-length dress of ice blue taffeta and carried pink and white roses. The flower girl wore a floor-length dress and carried pink and white flowers caught with long pink streamers. Mrs. Howard Butler and son Dan ha-ve returned from a month’s visit in Kushequa, Pa. Mr. Butler went up to bring them home. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil P. Clark spent the Labor Day weekend at their mountain place, “Wild wood,” near Asheville. Lieut. Col. and Mrs. Frank M. Smith are back after visiting friends in Lenoir City, Tenn Lieut, and Mrs. Edward L. Sherry Lynn, who ar rived at Moore County hospital September 6, weighing a little more than six pounds, four ounces. The Monroes have a son, Jerry, four years old. Dr. House Improves Dr. Robert Lee House, who was admitted to Moore County hospi tal last week, is improving, but is not yet allowed to receive visitors. PAULA JOY CROSLAND Mr. and Mrs. David B. Crosland of Charlotte announce the birth of their first child, a daughter whom they have named Paula Joy, at Presbyterian hospital, September 5. The baby weighed six pounds, 14 ounces at birth.
