THEATRES^ i Carolina Continuing through Friday (to night) and Saturday, at 8:15 p. m. with a Saturday matinee at the Carolina theatre is “Big Jim Me Lain,” with the exteriors filmed in Hawaii. It is a story of investi gators for the Congressional Un- American Activities comn^ittee, which is exciting, entertaining, with a light but very human love story. It is well constructed, splen didly produced, directed and pho tographed with the chief roles in the experienced hands of such fine actors as John Wayne, love ly Nancy Olson, James Arness, Veda, Ann Borg and others. Its suspense, drama, light comedy touches and acting will w hearty appreciation from any audihnee. HENRY H. TURNER Photographer PORTRAITURE and CUSTOM FRAMING 675 S. W. The 1952 lamb crop in North Carolina totals 32,000 head—10 per cent greater than the 1951 crop, but'3 per cent below the 1941-50 average. /Iiiiiounoemeiitl The Hole-In-One Golf Driving Range That hardy perennial, “Char ley’s Aunt,” made into a sprightly tune-show under the title of “Where’s Charley?” has been transferred from, the stage to the screen intact and is the attraction at the Carolina theatre, Sunday through Wednesday, September 14-17, at 8:15 p m. with matinees on Sunday and Tuesday at 3:00 To ouote from one of the lead ing critics who is in no way con nected with th^ producers: “This Technicolor musical comedy shines with the talents of Ray Bolger, the star, as he did in the most successful long-run Broad way Stage Play, and makes it good fun from beginning to end, and from the first song-and-danee number to the romantic finish, the picture snells entertainment ^ith a capital E. It is just about e most nerfect musical to greet the screen in a long tirre. There is everything right about it and nothing wrong. Every one of the 97 minutes is brimming over with aughter, m'usic and dancing. Rav Bolger is wonderful as Charley and Allyn, Robert Schackleton and Horace Cooper (who nearly steals the show), all from the orig inal Stage cast, score solidly in supporting roles. Here is one of those rare films, all done up in beautiful Technicolor, that can be unreservedly recommended for everybody.” Mr. Crowther, the New York Times critic, says; ‘‘Ray Bolger’s wild imnersonation of Charley’s nerennial aunt was of such a de lightful buoyance and frank friv olity that a rhapsodized fan could only wish it preserved for all-time in a deep freeze. That, we are hanny to inform you, has been ef fectively done.” The picture was filmed entirely in England, most ly on locations at Oxford univer sity where the story is laid.
