Mrs. Wonderly
Hurt In Accident
On Oklahoma Trip
Dr. and Mrs. William H. Won
derly and their three children,
who left Southern Pines Mondaj
of last week to drive to Okla
homa, were involved in an acci
dent Thursday which resulted in
injuries to Mrs. Wonderly.
Her kneecap was crushed and
she has had to undergo an opera-
fion at a hospital in Memphis,
Tenn., where she will remain as
a patient for two or three weeks.
Dr. Wonderly and the children,
Mary Emily, George and Sammie,
suffered, only minor bruises and
scratches.
The accident happened about 40
miles beyond Memphis when an
approaching car turned left di
rectly across the highway in
front of the Wonderleys’. Dr.
Wonderly, at the wheel, swerved
to the right to try to avoid the
other but was unable to do so, and
in the ensuing collision his car
was overturned.
Mrs. Wonderly is the former
Dorothy Richardson, daughter of
Sam B. Richardson, and she and
her family had spent the past
several months with Mr. and Mrs.
Richardson here. They were on
their way to the Wycliffe Bible
camp at Norman, Okla., where
Dr. Wonderly teaches each sum
mer. He is a member of the Wy
cliffe Bible Translators and for
the past 12 years has been sta
tioned among the Zoque Indians
in the mountains of southern
Mexico, making a study of their
language as he and his wife have
worked among them in the in
tent of Christianity.
