The Public
Speaking
To The Pilot: *
Upon opening my Pilot this
morning my attention was called
to the editorial ‘"Production Man
agers for the President,” and my
first impression was one' of
amusement, but was quickly fol
lowed in a greater degree with
pity for the writer.
The “amusement” came from
the fact that the writer showed
that he was still harboring the dis
appointment, that the people all
over the United States showed so
plainly by their action that Eisen
hower was the man that they
Wanted, and is still showing that
preference.
The “pity” was caused by the
fact, that anyone allowed to write
the editorial was so ignorant of all
the splendid progress already
made by our beloved President
when one realizes the terrible con
dition the country is in from the
administration of the last 20
years.
Either the writer was entirely
ignorant of what has been done,
or has such a narrow point of
view, the only criticism he could
make was regarding the difference
in the snarling voice of Truman,
and th6 friendly voice of Eisen
hower. Did he not recognize the
splendid calibre of the men in
the high positions included in the
talks we listened to that evening,
and the information given in such
a manner to the public, who like
himself might not understand
just what was being done?
I could go on and on, but may
I suggest that the writer take up
any magazine, or any newspaper
with views Democratic or Repub
lican, and he will find that all
over the United States the peo
ple are strong for Eisenhower apd
the manner he is handling the de
plorable situation that was hand
ed him; what I fear will surprise
him is the fact that it. is the Dem
ocrats that are doing fully as
much to help him carry out his
ideas as the Republicans.
Interestedly,
—(Mrs.) FLORENCE M. GRAFF.
Judge Phillips
Postpones Hearing
In Zoning Case
Hearing in the Pinebluff zoning
case. Town of Pinebluff vs. Cand-
is E. and Odes M. Spurlin, has
been indefinitely postponed by
Superior Court Judge F. Don Phil
lips, according to notice received
by attorneys in the case from the
resident district judge this week.
The hearing was originally set
for Saturday, June 27, to be held
in Judge Phillips’ chambers at
Rockingham. The judge postpon
ed it last week to Saturday, July
4, and this week sent word he
would have to be out of town on
that date and did not know when
he could conduct the hearing.
The Town of Pinebluff is seek
ing a mandatory writ compelling
the Spurlins to remove a house
trailer from a lot which they own
in the town’s residential section,
on the grounds that the trailer is
there in violation of the town’s
restrictive zoning ordinance.
