Frye, 53, was conducted Saturday morning at Beulah Hill Baptist church near West End, with burial following in the church cemetery. Mrs. Frye died Wednes day morning at her home on West End, Route 1. Surviving are her husband, T. L. Frye; three daughters, Mrs. Gracie Maw Dawkins of Apex, Mrs. Dorothy Virginia Lowry , of Southern 'Pines and Mrs. Eliza beth Sutton of Aberdeen, Route 1; and four sons, Philip H. Herring, Sr., and Miss Jane Herring spent the weekend at Carolina Beach. Mrs. E. L. Pleasants, Miss Fran ces Pleasants and Miss Rose Fiske returned home Tuesday after spending several days in the mountains of Western North Car olina. Mrs. Fred Blue and Miss Geor gia Ann Blue visited relatives in Lumberton several days last week. Mrs. Catherine M. Burns and Miss Dorothy McNeill were Wed nesday visitors in Fayetteville. Mrs. Mack Wallace spent Wed nesday visiting friends in Jackson Springs. Mips Ellen Monroe of Eagle Springs visited Mrs. John Fletch er, Tuesday. Dr. and Mrs. John K. Robertson and son have returned to Charles ton, S. C., after spending several days with Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Mc NeiU, Sr., and farnily. Mrs. Mc- Damage Light In Fire At Ye Olde Barn On Monday Flooring that caught from an oil burner brought Southern Pines volunteer firemen to Ye Olde Barn, 267 W. Pennsylvania ave nue, Monday afternoon at 1:15. Firemen ripped off some boards at the rear of the building and quickly extinguished a small blaze that could have become dis astrous in the heavy heart pine plank flooring of the structure which once was a barn and livery stable. It now contains an auto matic laundry and apartments. Ten firemen responded to the call with both the new No. 1 La France truck and the older Ford machine. Only the booster pump on the No. 1 truck was used in fighting the fire. Damage was rated light. The fire was in the ground floor which forms the ceiling for a basement at the rear of the building where the land slopes down. Firemen re turned to the station at 1:40 p. m. Willie Frye, 5, Drowns In Well WiUie Hugh Frye, five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Frye of Carthage was drowned last Fri day when he fell into a well at the home of his parents. The child was playing around the well and fell through a sliding door at the top. Funeral services were held Sat urday afternoon at Red Branch church, with burial in the church cemetery. Survivors in addition to his pa rents are three brothers, Roy, Gene and James; and four sisters, Ruth, Sally, Mary and Linda. All the children live at the home. Neill accompanied them home for a visit of several days. Mrs. J. M. McKeithen spent the weekend in Brevard. Dr. and Mrs. F. B. Bishop and family left Thursday on a trip to the mountains of Western North Carolina. Mrs. M. J. Muse and Mrs. J. L. Muse and children, Sherrie and Blaine, spent Monday visiting rel atives in Carthage. Johnny Pinkston of Fayette ville is visiting the Rev. and Mrs. C. W. Worth and daughters, Lucy and Julia. Mrs. Vance Hardison and son Van nof Arapahoe are guests this week of Mrs. Hardison’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Lawhon. Mrs. E. L. McNeill and son Ro- 'ger spent several days last week in Mt. Holly. Mrs. H. L. Marks and Miss Mae Marks returned home Monday af ter visiting relatives in Norman, Raleigh and Greensboro. Mr. and Mrs. Sid Taylor and family are vacationing at Tilgh- man’s Beach. Mr. and Mrs. John McCrummen and son Mac spent several days last week at Myrtle Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Francis Pleasants, Miss Edna Maurer, Mrs. M. B. Pleasants, and Mrs. Annabelle Johnson and sons are at Myrtle Beach for a few days. Mrs. Scott Miller of Salisbury is visiting her daughter and son- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. V. U. Grose, and son Victor. Mrs. Dusty McLeod is spending this week visiting Mr. and Mrs. William Koontz and family in Portsmouth, Va. Miss Jane Herring was the guest of Lt. and Mrs. D, B. Her ring, Jr., in Ft. Bragg several days last week. State Will Send $19,487 To Town Southern Pines will get $19,487 in State funds returned to muni cipalities under the Powell act, it was announced by the State Highway commission this week. Money for return to towns and cities under the Powell act repre sents one-half cent of the seven cents per gallon state gasoline tax. The funds are to be used for work on streets that are not part of the state highway system. This week’s announcement in cluded only funds received by cities and towns getting more than $10,000. Amounts to be re ceived by other municipalities in Moore county will be announced. Mid-year prospects indicate that the supply of feed concen trates _ for 1953-54 will be 6 per cent above those of this year and slightly lower than those of 1950- 51.
