gaged. April 12 to 24 are the dates
for his show. Mr. Boyd is a son of
Mrs. James Boyd.
From April 24 tc- May 8 there
is to be a show of the work of
Mrs. Jill Loomis, portrait painter.
Mrs. Loomis is the wife of Maj
Philip Loomis, Fort Bragg, and
is a student cf Robert Brackman.
Another young artist of the
Southern Pines Schools will ex
hibit May 10 to May 22. He is
Philip Morgan of Niagara, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Ben C. Morgan, and
is a student of Mr. Don Moore, art
teacher in the public schools.
The concluding exhibit. May
24 to June 5, will be the modern
work of Mrs. J6hn Crisp Ellert,
Fort Bragg. Mrs. Ellert is the wife
of Capt. Charles Ellert, and has
conducted art classes in Fayette
ville for the past two years.
This year being the first to ex
tend the exhibiting period from
July until the following summer,
Mrs. Carter has expressed her ap -
predation for the hearty coopera
tion of the artists who are partici
pating in the program. While resi
dents and visitors .cf Southern
Pines are familiar with the work
of many of the exhibitors, it is
Hoped that they will enjoy seeing
the work of the nine newcomers
to the Art Gallery.
In addition to those mentioned
abc-ve, these include exhibits by
Mr. Gregory Ivy, Head of the Art
Department of Women’s College,
Greensboro, and Mr. George
Kackergis, instructor of art. Uni
versity of North Carolina, Chapel
Hill. Both of these artists have
represented North Carolina well
in national art shows.
Mrs. Shirley Sontag, presently
exhibiting, is a new exhibitor, as
is Mrs. Kate Ranck Buie, Rock
ingham, whose watercolors will
appear in Janu^lry. Mrs. Buie is
an exhibiting member of the
Charlotte Artists’ Guild.
Although Mrs. Whitney Kent,
Fort Bragg, exhibited a series of
book illustrations in the Art Gal
lery in July, her watercolors and
tempera paintings of Afghanistan
will be a new attraction. These
were done whUe she and her hus
band, Col. E. F. Kent, were sta
tioned there with the Military
attache. She will be exhibiting
this winter at The Mint Museum
of Art in Charlotte also.
Of particular interest, however,
will be the large Christmas Group
Show, December 7 to December
19. With the hope that it will
prove all-inclusive for artists in
the area, each artist will be rep
resented by a work pertaining to
the seasonal theme.
