TEA, FASHION SHOW HIGHLIGHT MARCH MEETING OF OFFICERS’ WIVES CLUB The USAFAGOS Officers’ Wives Club entertained 65 mem bers and guests at a Fashion Show and tea at the Highland Pines Inn Wednesday afternoon of last week. Spring apparel from Lee Powers’ Casual Shop featured morning cottons, suits emphasiz ing the new Italian fabrics, after noon cottons, tea-time prints, and cocktail ensembles. Mrs. John Foster served as com mentator and chairman of the show. Special assistants were Mrs. James McDonald, Mrs. Glenn Vinquist and Mrs. Arthur Hunter. Mrs. Robert Rader was in charge of decorations. Mrs. S. H. Slaughter, Mrs. C. Dixon, Mrs. Charles Johnson, Mrs. David Buie, and Mrs. Ed ward Michaelson, wives of in structors at the Air-Ground School, modeled the clothing. At the conclusion of the Fash ion Show guests and members were ushered into the officers’ clubroom for the tea, at which Mrs. George Elvey, IVLrs. William Ryan and Mrs. David Callaway were hostesses. The tea table held a centerpiece of yellow roses, yellow snapdrag ons and heather, flanked by sil ver candelabra with ivory tapers. Mrs. William M. Gross and Mrs. Lamar Welch poured. THUMBNAIL TALKS ON DIFFERENT JOBS HEARD AT B&PW CLUB’S MARCH PROGRAM Members of the Sandhill Bust ness and Professional Women’s Club were entertained Tuesday evening with clever thumbnail speeches given by fellow mem bers at their monthly meeting, held in Aberdeen. The program, entitled “Panel- ettes,” consisted of six three-min ute talks, each representing a dif ferent business. Speakers and their subjects were: Mrs. Ola Thompson, “Importance of the Post Office Today”; Miss Lucille Minshew, “People Are Funny. . . Even in the Beauty Business”; Mrs. Olie King, “Why I Went In to Welfare Work”; Mrs. Cornelia Vann, “A Day In the Life Of a Desk Clerk”; Mrs. Lillian Miles Raymond, “From Salesclerk to Puyer”; and Miss Alice Baxter, Chamber of Commerce Life Is Wonderful.” President Mrs. Nancye McLel- lan presided over a short business session at which time reports of the Wilmington District Confer ence were given by members who attended. Mrs. Mamie Swaringen was ap pointed chairman of the nomina ting committee, which will pre sent a slate of officers for election at the April meeting. The new of ficers will be installed at the May meeting and will begin their serv ice in June for the 1954-55 term. Mumford, Magnolia Chapter 26 has adopted the following resolu tions: “Whereas, we, the members of Magnolia Chapter No. 26, Order of the Eastern Star, do sincerely mourn the loss of our sister and friend. Sister Sophie S. Mumford, who passed from this earthly hfe on February 25, 1954 “Sister Mumford was a charter member of Pride of the Orient Chapter of Peckville, Pa., which was instituted in 1895. She trans ferred to Hope Chapter, Hawley, Pa., and became a Past Matron of that Chapter. In May, 1930, she became a member of Magnolia Chapter No. 26, by affiliation. She was a Past Matron of this chapter, and served as secretary for several years. She was to us a faithful helper, therefore “Be it resolved, 1st, that we bow in humble submission to His will who has called our sister to the Grand Chapter on High. “Second, we extend to her fam ily our heartfelt sympathy in their sorrow, and commend them to Him who doeth all things well. “Third, that a copy of these resolutions be spread upon the minutes of our Chapter, a copy sent to the bereaved family, and a copy be sent to The Pilot for publication. “There is only a curtain between us Between the beyond and here. They whom we call, dead have not left us Nay, they were never so near. “Not dead, but only promoted. Eleanor Caldwell is the new Wor thy Matron, and Herbert Dieten hofer, Worthy Patron. Other officers installed were: Delma Finch, associate matron; Edwin Finch, associate patron; Vera Sitterson, treasurer; Georgia Stubbs, conductress; Bess Ward, associate conductress; Ruth Mc Rae, chaplain; Madeline Prim, marshal; Flora Lewis, Adah; Sue Trudell, Ruth; Jessie Mae Dwight, Esther; Ola Tyner, Martha; Ethel Cole, Electa; Dorcas Mills, ward er; and Fred Chappell, sentinel. Dr. Bruce Warlick sang “The Lord’s Prayer” by Mallotte. Dur ing this number houselights were turned out and the Bible, cross and star were spotlighted. Mrs. Caldwell based her ad dress gn the subject “Keeping the Faith.” Mr. Dietenhofer spoke briefly, also. The dedicatory pray er was given by the Rev. D. Hoke Coon. Following the opening cere mony Emory Smith, Worthy Pa tron, conducted the flag ceremony and Alice Smith, Worthy Matron, gave the welcome. In the closing ceremony. Past Matrons and Patrons formed an archway of lighted tapers be neath which the new officers pro ceeded, each carrying a lighted candle. Gifts were presented to the in stalling officers and the new Worthy Matron and presented as a gift from the Past Matrons and Patrons Club an arm bouquet of red carnations, with Peggy Prime making the presentation. Following the recessional an in formal reception was held. A col or scheme of pink and white was used on the r^eshment table. Mrs. D. Wade Stevick and Mrs. J. D. Sitterson served punch. INS and OUTS Mrs. Fred Flinchum and Mrs. Myrton Stewart, of Carthage, and Mrs. Ralph Long of Prospect Hill were Tuesday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Mills. Mr. and Mrs. William Euwer of Jeannette, Pa., and Miss Helen Euwer of Ocean City, N. J., who have been spending the winter at Pine Cone Lodge, have as their guests for the week their brother and sister-in-law. Dr. and Mrs. Norman L. Euwer, of St. Louis, Mo. Dr. Euwer, now retired, was associate pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church of St. Louis for many years.
