West Southern Pines School News
Scouts Praised
Hats off to the West Southern
Pines Scouts for the very fine job
they did in directing the traffic
and parking the cars during the
Annual Conference at Trinity A.
M. E. Zion Church. Much praise
was given them by the various
delegates and church officials for
the very fine service they ren
dered to the Conference.
The Scouts on duty were: G. S.
Cameron, Jr., Asst. Scoutmaster;
Jesse Graham, Horace Lewis,
Melvin McCall, Raymond McCall,
James Stroman, Ralph White,
James Reeves, William Person
Charles Brower, Ronald Little
and Cicero Carpenter.
The Scouts were very pleased
with the donation of $5 by St.
Mary’s Guild Emmanuel Church
—their share of the $15 donated
by the guild to the West Southern
Pines Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
This donation swelled the Boy
Scout treaisury to $31.
Another highly appreciated do
nation was contributed by the
Everready Women’s Federation to
Scout Ronald Little in the form of
a uniform.
Footbedl Team Honored
Last Tuesday night the West
Southern Pines football players
were feted at the home of Mrs.
E. Stubbs, with Mrs. Ferguson
and Mrs. Jordon playing host
with Mrs. Stubbs, the team’s
“mother.”
The players enjoyed bingo,
checkers and other games. De
licious cake, lime frappe and
sandwiches were served to high
light the occasion.
Cecil Goins, former West
Southern Pines standout player,
spoke briefly on the contributions
young athletes ohn make to help
builder a stronger and healthier
America. Fred Lutz, coach at
Pinckney High School, Carthage
terminated the talks by compar
ing the game of football with the
game of life.
Basketball Opener
West Southern Pines School
was to unveil her 1954-55 basket
ball squads here Thursday night
against a strong aggregation of
Lillington. Game time was set
7:30. There is speculation that the
outcome of the boys’' game is
somewhat of a toss up, since both
squads are on almost equal basis.
A capacity crowd is expected to
witness the performance of plen
ty of new players on both the
boys and girls squads.
West Southern Pines has sched
uled games against EUerbe, Pine
hurst, Lillington, Aberdeen, Rae-
ford, Carthage, Palmer Memorial
Institute, Sanford, Albemarle
and Hamlet.
League Issues Warning
The Young Boys League of
West Southern Pines states that
no one will be admitted to the
gymnasium on, recreation nights
unless he is a certified member.

S. Cameron for information per
taining to membership.

SAYS A VIRGINIA BANK
When a neighbor refers to your product or service as a
symbol of "confidence," you naturally feel pretty good about
it. At the risk of tooting our own horn, that's the way we feel
about the definition recently published by a Virginia Bank.
Here it is:—
". . . you flick an electric switch several
times a day—many times a year, and take
it for granted that electricity will respond
and light will be produced immediately.
That's dependability through proven use.
It adds up to confidence."
We want to thank our neighbor for those kind words. They
serve to spur us on to even better service . . . service which
will continue to merit the confidence those words express.
