The Thagards H. D. Club held
its March meeting in the home of
Mrs. O. L. Darnell with thirteen
present. Mrs. Glenn Horne, the
Family Life Leader, led the club
meeting in a discussion on “Dis
cipline-Wise and Otherwise.”
All club members' took part in the
discussion, each expressing her
views on discipline. We all en
joyed this meeting very much.
Mrs. Home had attended the
Family Life Leaders’ training
school held in Carthage.
Mrs. Ruby Matthews and Mrs.
Ernest Horne had attended an
Arts and Crafts School in Car
thage and taught the club mem
bers how to make tufted bed
spreads. After the business, games
were played and refreshments
were enjoyed. We are looking for
ward to our April meeting in the
new home of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn
Horne.—Mrs. Richard Matthews,
publicity chairman.
We have always thought of
Mrs. R. L. Black as our club’s out
standing turkey and poultry
grower. But now'she has started
to do over lier kitchen, dining
room and living room with the
aid of a neighbor boy. She was on
a step ladder putting up Celotex
over her head when we called one
afternoon. She plans to do all the
work herself except putting the
sheet rock on the walls. She will
have a carpenter do this.
Mrs. Black also has a very at
tractive yard in which she enjoys
working. She always has a good

Draft Files Of
World War 2 Vets
To Be Destroyed
Col. Thomas H. Upton, State
Director of Selective Seryice, said
today that he has received notice
from the Director of Selective Ser
vice to proceed with the disposal
of the individual files of regis
trants of the Selective Training
and Service Act of 1940, as amend
ed. He pointed out that any
World War II registrant needing
information from his World War
II selective service file should re
quest it now before the loss of
such information by destruction of
the records. The information must
be requested either in person or
by letter signed by the registrant.
W. W. Dalrymple of Carthage,
chairman of Moore County Local
Board 64, brings Colonel Upton’s
announcement to the attention of
World War II veterans in this
county. Further information may
be obtained from the board’s of
fice in Carthage.
Colonel Upton also stated that
the Director of Selective Service
advises that the great majority of
the World War 2 files have served
all discernible administrative pur
poses in the operation of the Uni
versal Mihtary Training and Ser
vice Act, as amended, and that the
Joint Committee of Congress on
the disposition of Executive Pa
pers has approved of the disposal
of individual files of registrants of
the Selective Training and Service
Act of 1940. The only World War
2 files to be retained are those of
registrants classified at any time
in Class IV-C (Alien), which have
been requested by the Immigra
tion and Naturalization Service.
Files obtained under the current
draft act will continue to be main
tained by each registrant’s local
