town, Ohio, mother of Mrs. Em
mett French of Hill Road, died
Monday, according to information
reaching friends of Mrs. French
in Southern Pines.
Mrs. French was called to
THURSDAY, JUNE 30. 1955
Youngstown last week because of
her mother’s critical illness, leav
ing Saturday from her home at
Myrtle Beach, S. C.. where she
has been living recently.
Details of funeral service and
other information were lacking in
information given to The Pilot.
Mrs. Krauter had visited her
daughter in Southern Pines and
was known here.

Miss Brown Enters
Tennis Tourneys
In Three States
Audrey West Brown, who grew
up on local courts to become the
State’s top-ranking woman tennis
player, will spend the month of
July playing in tournaments in
three states, possibly four, with
others on her schedule for later
in the summer. She is fourth-
ranked in women’s singles, second
in doubles, in the South.
She play next week in the
South Carolina Open at Green
ville, then in the National Clay
Courts Championships at Atlanta
July 11-17. Next comes the North
Carolina Open at Asheville, in
which she was runner-up last
year, then probably the Tennessee
Open at Chattanooga.
She will defend her title in the
Sandhill Invitational here August
17-20, but said today she hasn’t
decided whether she will go to
Greensboro in September to de
fend the singles crown in the
North Carolina Closed which she
won last year, and in four previ
ous years.
A University of North Carolina
graduate in accounting, she has'
given up the position she held for
two years in the offices of the
Western Electric Co. at Burling
ton, and plans to become associat
ed next fall with her father, H. L.
Brown, in his office furnishings
and supplies business here.
