Sunday evening in the school auditorium the Rev. Angus McK. Cameron of Englehard, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Cameron of Vass and an alumnus of the school, will preach the baccalaureate ser mon. Wednesday, the seniors will present their Class Night pro gram, and Thursday evening the graduation exercises will be held. All of the high school com mencement programs will begin at 8 p. m. Eighth grade corrimencement will be held at 9 a. m. Thursday. Recent Bride Feted Honoring Mrs. D. R. Hinesley who before her recent marriage was Miss Helen Curtis of Lake- view, Mrs. Julian C. Smith enter tained at a miscellaneous shower Monday evening at the Lakeview Community house. After several games directed by M:iss Elise McWilliams, the shower gifts were presented and opened. Refreshments were serv ed, with Mrs. C. G. Crockett, Jr., presiding at the punch bowl. Goodbyes were said by the host ess and the bride’s mother, Mrs. W. M. Curtis. WSCS Meets Mrs. Cortis Thomas was hostess to the Methodist Woman’s Soci ety of Christian Service an eve ning last week in the fellowship hall of the church. Mrs. G. E.- Griffin gave the opening meditation and Mrs. C. L Tyson was leader of a program entitled “Why We Give.” This was presented in dialog form by Mrs. A. G. Edwards, Jr., and Mrs. W. A. Muse. Mrs. H. C. eron. Woman's Club Mrs. C. L. Tyson and Mrs. Leon Keith were hostesses to the Vass Woman’s Club last Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Tyson. Mrs. Leon Keith, president, conducted the b_psiness session during which final plans for a beneftit supper were made and an interesting re port on interior work on the im munity house given by Mrs. D. F. Cameron. Mrs. J. A. Hudson, chairman of the Welfare Department, was in charge of the program. She in troduced Mrs. Mark J. King, Jr., of the county welfare staff, who gave an informative talk on the various services rendered by her department, discussing and ex plaining the workings of the Old Age Assistance, Aid for Depend ent Children, and to the perma nently disabled. She stressed the need of a larger staff, especially a children’s worker. A question and answer period followed her talk. The hostesses served cherry pie a la mode. Mrs. Bernice Turner of Anson- ville was a guest. Entertain Dinner Guests Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Causey and children Joanie and Eddie, of Lakeview entertained Mr. and Mrs. John McCrummen, Miss Ne- olia McCrummen and Miss Louise Leslie of the Vass-Lakeview facul ty, also Mack McCrummen and Susan Irby, at dinner at the For rest lake a recent evening. Fish ing was enjoyed before dinner, which was served in the attrac tive cabin. Mr. and Mrs. Carey Miller and son spent several days last week as guests of Mr. and Mrs. V. U. Grose. Mrs. Jack Crane of Fayetteville visited her mother, Mrs. W. A. Blue, one day this week. Mrs. John D. McLeod is spend ing several days with Dr. and Mrs. John D. McLeod, Jr., and family in Keyser, W. Va. Miss Janet Carter and Miss Candance McDonald of Carthage and Watts Aiirnan and Joe Eifort of West End visited Mr. and Mrs. Frank McNeill and young son Franke on Saturday. Mrs. Charles H. Brame of Or lando, Fla., is visiting her mother, Mrs. Ella Benson, and sister, Mrs. Clarence Smith, for several days. Mrs. John .McLean left Satur day for an extended visit with her ^on and daughter-in-law and new granddaughter in Tampa, Fla. Miss Jo Sue Wallace returned to Durham after spending the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mack Wallace. Among those from Chapel HiH at home for the weekend were Miss Ella Ruth McNeill, Tony Miley, Bill Taylor, and Gene Maynard. Miss June Melvin of Queens College, Charlotte, visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Mel vin, over the weekend. Francis Pleasants of Oceana, Va., spent the weekend with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. T. The cake was pink, green and white, and decorated with John ny’s favorite animals. The chil dren sang “Happy Birthday” to him. Each child was presented an Indian headdress as a favor. Oul Of Hospital Mrs. Charles Parker returned home Tuesday from Lee County Hospital where she was a patient for a week. Entertain Seniors The Sophomore Class enter tained the seniors at a party at the Vass community house last Friday evening. Games and re freshments were served. C. lock, was honored on her seventh birthday, Wednesday of last week, at a party at which guests were her first grade classmates, her teacher, Mrs. Estelle Boroughs, a special guest, Janice Lee Bur- oughs, of Southern Pines, and her grandmother, Mrs. W. C. Leslie,' a total of 31. The children and their teacher walked the short distance from school to the’ home of the hon- oree’s “Mama Essie” where the Bullocks reside, and had a good time playing with Marjorie Les lie’s toys and watching as she opened her gifts. Tables were set up on the back lawn for refreshments. There was a big white birthday cake decor ated in pink and white with pink candles, and ice cream. Favors were party hats, balloons, bubble gum and lollipops. Entertains for Daughters Honoring her daughters, Sara, a pupil in Mrs. John McCrummen’s fifth grade, and Sandra, who is in Miss Bessie Cameron’s second, Mrs. Charles Von Metzger served refreshments to the two grades on Thursday of last week in their classrooms. The children enjoyed ice cream, cookies, drinks and lol lipops. Personals Mrs. Walter C. Byrd of Albe marle visited Mr. and Mrs. Leon Keith, Miss Nealie Keith and Eu gene Keith the first of the week. Mrs. Julian Smith and children, Johnny and Sandra, visited rela tives in Raleigh last weekend. Mrs. Ora Thompson of Han cock’s Bridge, N. J., and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Powers (Eunice Thompson) of Baltimore, Md., came Saturday and are remaining through this week with Mr. and Mrs. Thurlow Evans. Mrs. Morgan and children are spending this week with them. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Beasley were Mother’s Day guests of their son- in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Claude I. Burkehead, of Fayette ville, along with the Burkeheads from Candor. Mr. and Mrs. James Key and Betty attended a Mother’s Day dinner af the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Thomas, near Lemon Springs. Visiting Mrs. George Stutts on Mother’s Day were Mr. and Mrs. Wildlife Club Has Meet In Carthage “Better Fishing,’^ a project that Moore County Wildlife Club members have been working on for several years, was the chief topic of discussion at the club’s last meeting, held Monday night in Carthage. Walter E. Price, manager of the ■Sandhill Wildlife management area, and Bob Humphries, fisher ies investigator, told club mem bers that fishing in this state could be as good, or better, than that in most states if available fa cilities were properly managed. They showed a film and led a general discussion on fishing. The club will hold its next meeting at Leavitt’s Lake, near Eastwood. Chan Page and J. T. Overton, owners of the lake said a fish fry would be held for mem bers, prospective members, and their guests. The club is now conducting a membership drive, and suggested that each member bring five prospective members to the next meeting. John Stutts of High Point, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Jones of Hope Mills, and Mrs. B. F. Lane of By num. Mrs. Emma Pierce of Sanford spent Friday with Mrs. D. C. Beal. Mr. and Mrs. K. M. Wallace, Chris and Kenneth Wallace and. their children, all of Pinehurst, were Sunday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Frye. A trip to Chimney Rock was a Mother's Day gift which Mrs. Daniel Boggs greatly enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Hal Womble and chil dren, Van and Teresa, of Raleigh came down for the weekend and took Mr. and Mrs. Boggs and Miss Agnes Boggs on the trip Sunday. Mrs. T. F. Cameron spent last weekend with her sister, Mrs. Bright Andrews, at Chapel HiU. A. G. Crissman, Jr., with A. B. Atkins, Herbert Briggs and Dick Phillips of Cameron, attended the stock car races at Hillsboro Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Davis and daughter Ellen Ruth of Erwin spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Thurlow Evans. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Hemphill and Betty Lou of Hamlet visited Mrs. W. D. McCraney Sunday af ternoon. Miss Bessie Cameron and Mrs. S. R. Smith had dinner Satvpday evening with Mrs. Pearl Still at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Willett in Lemon Springs. Mrs. StiU, a member of the Lemon Springs faculty, occupied an apartment in Miss Cameron’s home for a while. Mrs. Bob Perry visited her mother, Mrs. W. H.
