Methodist Circles Meet
Circle 1 of the Methodist Wom
an’s Society of Christian Service
met Wednesday afternoon at the
home of Mrs. M. F. Butner. Mrs.
Butner presided over the busi
ness and Miss Lydia Hutchings
presented the program. The host
ess served refreshments at the
close of the meeting.
Mrs. Grauland McCaskill was
hostess to Circle 2 at her home
Wednesday evening at 8 o’clock.
Fifteen members and four visit
ors were present. Mrs. Ralph
Foushee gave the devotional
reading, a meditation from The
Methodist Woman and the book
of John. The general topic was
'“Spiritual Unity At Home And
Abroad.” Mrs. James Hamilton
discussed “Common Denomina-j
tor in Southern Asia,” Mrs. Clay
Parker gave “Christian Social
Relations in the Philippines.”
Mrs. Douglas Morgan gave news
items from India, and Mrs. Es
telle Griffin presented “The New
Holding.” Following the program
a hat sale was enjoyed, after
which the hostess, assisted^ by
her mother, Mrs. J. R. Lampley,
and Mrs. Robert Tulloch, served
homemade ice cream.

' Arnold Perkins of Cleveland,
Ohio, stopped over for a few
days with his sister, Mrs. Lewis
Marts, and Mr. Marts. He was
en route to Miami, Fla.
Mrs. Hael Allison has returned
,home from a trip to Canada. Go
ing to Morris Plains, N. J., sb
was joined there by her sister
and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
James Fear. From there they
went to Corbeau Lodge at Kip-
pewa, Canada, where they spent
several weeks before returning
home.

charges of shooting his stepfath

Propst, who was arrested by
Southern Pines police after he
had shot his stepfather with a
.22 calibre rifle at the home here,

stepfather testified he thought
the shooting was accidental.

lowjackets will launch the 1956
ifootball season next Thursday,
September 20, when they meet
inter-county rivals, Berkley High
School of Aberdeen.
The Yellowjackets, bolstered
by several new prospects, have
been working out daily on con
tact drills and fundamentals.
Considered a serious contender
for the Eastern district six man
championship this year, the Yel
lowjackets will play a six-game
schedule.

Farmers Should File
For Gasoline Refunds
The North Carolina Farm Bu
reau reminded farmers this week
to file their federal tax refunds
on farm-used gasoline. The dead
line is October 1.
Farm Bureau Executive Vice
President R. Flake Shaw said
many fEumers eligible for this re
fund have not made application
for it.
A charge of three cents in fed
eral tax is made on each gallon
of gasoline. This is the first yep
that farmers who use gasoline in
farm machinery have been ex
empt from it.
Farmers should file for the re
fund through the office of P. K.
Sanders, Greensboro, director of
internal revenue for the North
Carolina district.
