Local Youth Wins Tennis Tourneys On Continent Malcolm Clark, who is with the U. S. Army in Germany, is up holding the traditions of his home town of Southern Pines in the matter of teiyiis. Last fall he won the open sin gles tournament in the city of Tirschenreuth. In the VII Corps tournament this year he won the doubles with Lt. Alan Kohn and was runner-up in the singles. This gave him the opportunity to rep resent the VII Corps in the US- AREUR tournament held at Gar- mish last week. In this he also was runner-up in the singles. He is now qualiiied to play against the British Army of the Rhine. Robert Price Wins Again In Archer’s Meet At Brevard Robert Price, Jr., son of Major and Mrs. R. P. Price of Sbuthern Pines, placed second in the junior field of the State Cham pionship of the Southern Arch ery Association’s recent toimna- ment held in Brevard, it was learned here this week. Young Price, an accomplished archer, won first place in the field, tournament of the junior division of a similar tournament held in Brevard early in Septem ber, when 12 Southern states were represented. In the men’s “instinctive” divi sion of the recent field tourna ment, Major Price placed second. Mrs. LuellaVaughn Succumbs; Rites HeldNearCarthage Mrs. Louella Vaughn, 84, of Carthage, wife of the late B. L. Vaughn, died Wednesday morn ing in the Lee County Hospital at Sanford. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. D. L. Stutts, Route 7, Jonesboro, Mrs. Claude Marsh of Route 2, Carthage, and Mrs. Pines Deese of Route 2, Car thage; four sons, L. E. of Route 2, Carthage, R. T. of Route 3, Carthage, Chester of Route 1, Cameron, and J. E. of Wbolwine, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Emma Tilley of New Hill, 27 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held to- lay at 2 p. m. at the Red Branch Baptist Church near Carthage, and burial followed in the church cemetery. ATTENDS ASSEMBLY Dr. Charles Phillips attended the Tennessee Valley Medical As sembly in Chattanooga, Tenn., last week.
