THE PILOT—Southern Pines. North Carolina THURSDAY. OCTOBER 25. 1956 Spooks And Goblins To Participate In Annual Rotary Halloween Party j! iT._ 1 , toVo iinsilark hptween thi Final plans for the annual Ro tary Halloween party, which will be held Wednesday at Memorial Field, were completed and an nounced this morning by Joe Scott, chairman of the party corn- take up the slack between the con tests. All the activity will be cen tered around a stage in front of the bleachers. Added attractions will be food. provided free, which will be sery- mittee. Spooks, goblins, skeletons, witches and assorted other cos tumed characters have been invit ed to take part in the party, which Scott said would be the biggest ever held. Object of the party is, frankly, to keep children away from the main business area of Southern Pines Halloween night. Local businessmen have subscribed the 'funds needed to st%ge the party and have, according to Scott ’’been most generous.” Prizes, with everyone taking part guaranteed one, have been obtained. Scott said the party would of ficially get under way with a giant costume parade from 7 to 7:15 at the field. The parade will be led by the full Southern Pines high school marching band, com plete with the majorettes. Following the parade the party will get underway with a series of games classified into three age groups; 4-7 group: egg and spoon race pinning a tail on the donkey. 8-11 group: glove contest and shaving contest. 12-14 group: potato sack race and pie eating contest. There will also be apple bob bing, a roulette game, fortune tell ers and many other forms of en tertainment. Scott said that there would be five classifications for the various costume contests: (1) witches ghosts and skeletons; (2) most beautiful, ugliest, most and most unusual; (3) devils, fair ies and dancers ;<4) historical. Ori entals, foreigners and goblins; and (5) clowns, Indians, animals and cowboys. There wiU be 10 preliminary winners in each category;,^ in the finals there will be three winners named in each of the categories with the others receiving consola tion prizes. From the top three winners in all the groups, one boy and one girl will be chosen for first prizes. A jitterbug and rock ’n roll con test will be held at 10 p.m. in which all seniors at the high school have been invited to partic ipate or assist. Other entertainment has been planned, Scott said, that would ed by members of the mess detail at the Air Ground School. j Scott admonished the commun-1 ity’s children this morning to re- j member where the entertainment i was coming from. I He said that without the sup- j port and contributions 'of the town’s businessmen the party j would not be possible, and added j that the party would continue on j an annual basis if it proved sue-. cessful. .. .. . 1 He also reminded parents that a bus would leave the postoffice, be- ginning at 7 p.m., for Memorial Field every few minutes to trans port parents and children who have no other forms of transporta tion. Members of his committee are Frank Yandell, Hollie Sisk, Col. George Garde and James Harts- home.
