NOVEMBER 8, 1956 THE PILOT—Southern Pines, North Carolina Page THIRTEEN Four Accidents In County Reported By SHP Last Week Four accidents, three of them involving soldiers, were reported by the State Highway Patrol over the past week. All caused person- hll injuries, some of them very serious. The most serious landed seven Negroes—^four soldiers and three young women —in the hospital last Wednesday. James McNair, 25, lost control of his new model car on NC 211 about one mile west of Aberdeen, skidded sideways for some 300 feet and turned over three or four times, according to the SHP report. One girl, a tesident of West Southern. Pines, suffered two fractured ribs, a perforated lung, a broken hip and a dislo cated hip. The other two girls in the ac cident were injured though to a lesser extent. All were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital. McNair will be charged with operating his automobile at an excessive speed, the Patrol said. In another accident, last Tues day evening, Mrs. Ollie Ring, wife of Robert Lee Ring of Route 3, Carthage, received a fractured leg and head injuries when the car in which she was a passenger was struck by another as it wait ed on the road shoulder. I Cpl. Jim McColman, who in vestigated, said the accident Oc curred on the Union Church Road just west ,of Vass. George McCrimmon, 28, of ITass, was operating the vehicle that struck the Ring car. Cpl. McColman said McCrimmon told him he was blinded by the lights of Ring’s car and was unable to see where he was goin§. ! Mr. and Mrs. B. Parker, occu pants of Ring’s car, also were in jured, both receiving bruises and abrasions. All the injured were taken to Moore County Hospifal. Cpl. McColman has filed no charges pending further investi gation. Specialist 3|c Ben Tillman Kay of Southern Pines, suffered minor injuries when his car, travelling toward Fort Bragg on East Connecticutt Avenue Exten sion went out of control for some 347 feet and turned a somersault. The accident happened Friday. He was cited to appear in Moore County 'Recorder’s Court for driving at an excessive speed. MiSgt. Harold T. Bruce, resi dent ranger at station No. 5, Camp Mackall, was slightly hurt Thursday afternoon when the MP truck he was driving toward the camp went off the road and overturned. ’The accident occur red near Addor. The SHP * reported that Sgt Bruce was charged with careless and reckless driving. Vehicles in all the accidents were damaged to a considerable extent.
