Southern Pines High School will
be held Friday night, December
28.
Coach W. A. Leonard said to
day that he had been approached
by several members of past
teams, both boys and girls, and
that all indications pointed to a
lively night. Game time is 7:30,
with the girls leading off.
The affair, which had its start
10 or 12 years ago, has developed
over the years into an excellent
opportimity for returning alumni
to hold get-togethers, and is one
of the top events in Southern
Pines during the Christmas holi
day season.
Last year, in the boys game,
the high school team won, but
Leonard said it was a toss-up
this year, though the alumni may
be slightly favored. He based his
prediction on the fact that there
were a number of recent gradu
ates from the school who had
been playing college basketball
and were in good condition,
“The girls’ game should be close
also,” he said. “Girls have been
taking part more and more each
year and I believe we may have
a real battle this year.”
Home for the holidays and ex
pected to play for the alumni
boys team are Johnny Watkins,
Bobby Cline, Julian Pleasants,
John Seymour, Bill Marley,
James Humphrey and Paql Kin-
nison, all members of last year’s
team that was the runner-up in
the coimty conference.
From the 1953 county cham
pionship team are David Page
and Tommy Buggies.
Older graduates who are ex-
Mattocks, Ray Copley, Bill
Baker, Tink Bowen and several
others.
In the girls’ game, Dorothy
in the school’s history, and
member of the 1954 team, is ex
pected to play.
She will be joined by Kay
Betty Morris, Barbara Guin,
Davis, Patti Woodell Campbell,
Jacque Davenport, Betty Jo
Britt, Peaches Cameron and Sie
ger Herr. *
Coach W. A. Leonard has urg
