O. L. Hathaway, su perintendent of the Fayetteville District Methodist Churches, will preach at the 7:30 p. m. service at the Vass Methodist Church Sunday and conduct the fourth quarterly conference following the service. Woman's Club The Vass Woman’s Club will meet at 7:30 p. m. Friday, Janu ary 11, at the home of Mrs. E. L. Finch with Mrs. H. C. Callahan as co-hostess. Mrs. Chailie Gsch- wind, chairman of the Garden Department, will have charge of the program. Receive Awards A number of pupils of the Vass Presbyterian Sunday School were presented attendance awards last Sunday by the superintendent, C. G. Crockett. Bonnie Jean Hicks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hicks, led all others with 12 years of perfect attendance. Others in the group were: James Jessup, six years; John Francis and Wanda Caddell, five years each; Mike Gschwind, Har vey Lee Price and Mike Hudson, four years; Ann Boggs and Mrs. Walter Boggs, three years; Terry Jessup, Stevie Boggs, Ann and David Crockett, two years; Ron nie Boggs, nine months; Ronnie and Eddie Smith, three months. Golden Wedding Mr. and Mrs. W. Alex Smith held open house Sunday after noon in celebration of their Gold en Wedding anniversary, with around 135 attending. Mr. and Mrs. Smith greeted their friends informally. The three-tiered wedding cake v/as in white and gold, flanked by arrangements of golden yel low chrysanthemums. Mrs. Smith wore an orchid corsage. and her daughters, Mrs. L. B. Frye and Mrs. Edgar Mashburn, who assisted in entertaining, wore corsages of yellow rosebuds. No Service No preaching service was held at the Vass Methodist Church last Sunday as the pastor and his family were ill with influenza. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jones and son, Joe, returned home'on Mon day from Humboldt, Tenn where they spent the holiday season. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Rogers, Jr., of Denton were Sunday guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Mullinix. Harry Laubscher of Sanford underwent a major operation at Duke Hospital in Durham last Friday. On Sunday, Mrs. B. C. McRae, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Mc Rae and family, Mr. and Mrs. Max Edwards, and the M. G. Mc Raes of Southern Pines visited him. Mrs. Russell (Pete) McRae, who is a nurse, spent Saturday with Mr. Laubscher, her brother- in-law, and Mr. McRae went up to bring her home. Mrs, John Harrington of Broadway was the weekend guest of her sister-in-law, Mrs. R. G .Rosser. Mrs. J. W. Hight of Greensboro spent last week with relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Wooten have moved from their place on Route 2 to their attractive new home on Highway 1 in toWn. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Jones of Hope Mills were weekend guests of her ' mother, Mrs. George Stutts. Mrs. Calvin Blue underwent surgery at Moore Memorial Hos pital Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Linwood Keith and sons, Joe and Herbert, of Sanford visited Mrs. W. H. Keith Sunday afternoon. Mrs. O. M. Bullock, who has been with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Caviness, for several days, spent Sunday with Mr .and Mrs. Rus sell Bullock and the Leslies. Mrs. Bullock, who has been staying with her daughter, Mrs. C. D. Painter and family at Fuquay for several weeks, plans to return to Fuquay some time this week. Mrs. O. M. Spurlin of Ruther- fordton spent Friday and Satur day nights with her sister, Mrs. C. P. McMillan. On Saturday they and Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Ed wards visited Mrs. Herbert Banks at Garner and Mr. and Mrs. Seth Lassiter, near Smithfield. Mrs. Spurlin came because of the ill ness of her son, O. M. Spurlin, Jr., of Pinebluff, who underwent surgery at Moore Memorial Hos pital a few days ago. Mrs. R. G. Rosser and Mrs. W. H.
