Yellow jackets Get
Two Easy Wins

The West Southern Pines Yel
low Jackets, one of the area’s top
Negro teams, scored the second
victory of the seeison over Up-
fchurch High School (Raeford),
60-34, Tuesday night on the local
court.
The West Southern Pines girls
also scored an easy victory, 46-23,
for their second straight win
over Raeford.
In the boys’ game A1 Hill laid
in 14 points to lead the scorers.
James Dockery, center, followed
with 13, but it was Alexander
Lloyd who stole the show by cap
turing 25 rebounds. Lloyd was
held, however, to nine points.
In the girls’ event Parthenia
McCall, Madelyn Moore and
Brenda Marshall led the scoring
for the locals. Patricia Murphy,
Jean Gore and Sarah Cooper
were outstanding bn defense.
The next home game for the
Yellow Jackets will be tomorrow
night when they meet Rocking-
bame, perennial rivals.

Mr. and Mrs. Benny Brooks
and children of Atlanta, Ga., are
spending some time in Pinehurst
with Mrs. Brooks’ parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Ernest Hartsell, and
also visiting relatives of Mr.
Brooks in Pinebluff.
Mrs. J. W. Pickier has return
ed home after spending the past
ten months in Westminster,
Calif., with her daughter, Mrs.
William E. Dieterle, and Mr.
Dieterle. Mrs. Pjckler is with Mr.
game of the year with an upset
over Ellerbe. The girls’ game
ended in a tie.
Next game for the elementary
teams will be Tuesday night
when Ellerbe gets a rematch

Pinehurst, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Paul Dana, has joined the
faculty of Southern Pines ele
mentary school cis a third grade
teacher.
She replaces Mrs. Norris Hodg
kins, Jr., who has been teaching
on a temporary basis since Mrs
Louise Milliken Howard resign
ed just before Christmas.
Miss Dana, a graduate of Hol
lins College in Virginia, has just
finished a series of teaching
courses at the University of
North Carolina.
