The outfits were modeled on a stage decorat ed as a garden scene. Prizes were awsirded for first, second and third place winners. The grand prize was won by Edna Monroe, who modeled a flattering black and white princess line dress with the center front and center back panels extending over the shoulders to form a wide collar. Second prize was awarded Carolyn Williams, who wore a navy sheath basic dress with lined polka dot cape and cummerbund. Sarah Black captured third place in an aqua empire-waisted, flare- skirted dress trimmed with a bias band and.bow at the Seam joining the waist and skirt. Mrs. M. C. McDonald, Jr., was in charge of the program and pre sented the prizes to the girls in behalf of the club. Mrs. Ruth Klingenschmidt and Mrs. Betty Motgan served as judges. Those participating were Cassie Gibson, Mary Frances Freeman, Lou Ellen HaU, Sarah Joyce, Dor othy Furr, Sherrie Upole, Caro lyn Williams, Sarah Black, Sarah Pusser, Joyce Martin, Edna Mon roe, Jean Hill, Carolyn Thomas, Vicki Hicks, Gerolene Thomas, Lois Godfrey, and Carol Blake. This fashion show was the high light of the club year, with Mrs. Ruth T. Brooks, the popular home economics teacher, in charge. On Friday morning at 9 o’clock *the dress revue was held during chapel exercises. At this time Hjlda Richardson and Hilda Chis holm were responsible for the de votions. The'dress revue has be come one of the highlights of the school year. Girl Scouts The Girl Scouts were also guests of the Woman’s Club, and'the in termediate troop with their lead er, Mrs. A. J. Hanner, conducted the flag ceremony. The Senior Scouts with their leader, Mrs. Floyd Upole, present ed a skit on “Litterbug.” The girls are working on their five- point service program. The club members, girls and their mothers enjoyed a social hour in the Home Economics de partment following the meeting, with Miss Alberta Monroe, Mrs. E. R. Outland and Mrs. Harold Markham as hostesses. WSCS Meets The Woman’s Society , of Chris tian Service of the Montgomery- Moore Subdistrict met at the Methodist Church on Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. R. A. Fitzger ald of Candor presiding. TTie group was welcomed by the local president. Miss Lucile Eifort, and Mrs. H, B. Miller of Troy gave the response. Special music, “I Know Him,” was given by Mrs. Pearce Lay- field, Miss Blanche Monroe and Mrs. Paul VonCanon, with Miss Dorothy Leigh VonCanon accom panying at the organ. A memo rial service was conducted by Mrs. L. C. Larkin, district secretary of Spiritual Life. Mrs. H. R. Odom, president of the Fayetteville dis trict, recognized all district offi cers and heard reports from WSCS presidents of the various churches. An address was given by Mrs. Pierce Johnson, president of the Conference WSCS. The local organization served supper to the groupl in the youth building with Mrs. Fred Monroe as chairman. Junior-Senior Banquet On Friday evening the Junior Class of the high school honored the Senior Class at a banquet in the school cafeteria. A program, “The Rock and Roll Revue,” was presented by the juniors, with the cafeteria transformed into a night club. Highlighting the evening fun was the presentation of signi ficant gifts to each member of the Senior Class. Eugene Blake, president of the Junior Class, welcomed the guests, and Joe Eifort, Senior Class pres ident, responded. Clifton Munn gave the invocation. In addition to the seniors, other guests included Supt. and Mrs. H. Lee Thomas of Carthage, the high school faculty, the school board and grade parents. A supper of roast turkey with all the trim mings was served by member of the Methodist Church. Following the banquet dancing was enjoyed at the Legion hut. Sandspur Club The Sandspur Club of West End had its annual guest night April 11 at the West End Legion hut. The social committee serving as hostesses included Mrs. Lee Sut- phin, chairman, Mrs. Everett Cole and Mrs. North Lewis. A covered dish suppe^ was en joyed by the members, who had their husbands as guests. Eigh teen other guests who represented the other clubs and churches in the community were there. Frank Yandell, Boy Scout exec utive for Moore County, from Southern Pines, spoke to the group on Community Recreation. A discussion followed and the club will make a survey concern ing interest in community recrea tion. Brief Mention The Floyd Coles are moving in to their ranch type home on the Pinehurst road this week. Best of all, their son, Mike, is home and is recuperating nicely follow ing severe bums. The Hobson Tuckers are mov ing into their pretty new home across from the H. L. Gordon res idence.
