Dr. George Matheson, Retired Dean
Of St. John’s Law School. Passes

Dr. George W. Matheson, 63,
dean emeritus of St. John’s Uni
versity School of Law in Brook
lyn, died at his home here Mon
day. He had been ’ ill for some
time.
Dr. Matheson, who spent al
most half his life at St. John’s,
was co-founder of the univer
sity’s law school with Judge
Philip A. Brennan.
Several weeks ago he and Mrs.
Matheson purchased the An
drews Estate on Connecticut
Avenue. Previously, he had liv
ed in Knoll wood. He retired here
several years ago because of ill
health.
Funeral services are being
held tonight (Thursday) at the
Fairchild Funeral Chapel in
Brooklyn. Burial will be Friday
in Evergreen Cemetery in
Brooklyn.

Constance dePool of New York,
who was a former law student of
his.

He earned his BA Degree at
Columbia in 1914; his LL.B from
St. Lawrence University Law
School in 1917, and an LL. D
from St. John’s in 1926.
He was admitted to the New
York Bar in 1917 and practiced
in Brooklyn. He was principal of
the YMCA Prep School in Brook
lyn from 1914 to 1917 and a pro
fessor of law at Brooklyn Law
School for the next eight years
before becoming dean and co
founder of St. John’s Law
School.
His clubs were Columbia Uni
versity, Cherry Valley Club,
Pinehurst County Club, and the
St. Andrews Society.
He wrote Principles of Law in
Agency in 1921; Cases of Law of
Agency in 1922; Cases on Law on
Damages in 1922; and Cases and
Material on the Law of Evidence

Mrs. P. A. Wilson and most of
her eighth grade pupils of Vass-
Lakeview school went by char
tered bus to Chapel HiU Monday,
the main puroose being to visit
Morehead Kanetarium. They
were there for the last showing of
Easter, the Awakening.”
They had lunch in the college
cafeteria and spent the rest of the
time visiting places of special in
terest on the campus.

Alumni Banquedt
The Vass-Lakeview Alumni As
sociation will hold its annual ban
quet meeting at the school this
Saturday night. ’The banquet,
to be served by Mrs. Bob Maurer
and her home economics class,
will get underway at 7:30, but aU
who can come earlier for an hour
or so of visitation are requested
to do so .
There will be special anniversa
ries for Classes ’24, ’25, ’31, ’32,
■42, and ’55.

Mis. Daniel Boggs gave a birth
day dinner for her sister, Miss
Irene Cameron of Cameron Route,
Sunday. A number of relatives
attended, including Miss Lizzie
Cameron of Sanford. Mrs. R. G.
Rosser and Roy Frye of Vass were
additional guests.
Mrs. Arch Blue honored her
husband witYi a surprise birthday
dinner Sunday. Many of his rel
atives and hers gathered for the
celebration.
Outdoor Supper
Angus Mills employees held an
outdoor supper at the Forrest
pond Saturday evening.
Mystery Ride
The Sophomore Class of Vass-
Lakeview High School entertain
ed the seniors with a “Mystery
Ride” Tuesday night, ending at
the community house where re
freshments were served.
