E. Griffin, as hostess' and with Mrs, Redga R. Thomas presiding. Mrs. S. R. Smith served as secretary in the absence of Mrs. E. L. Finch. Following a Scripture reading Funeral Services Held Sunday For Mrs. McCaskill Mrs. J. A. McCaskill, 77, of Pinehurst, died suddenly < in Moore Memorial Hospital Friday night. Funeral services were held from the Pinehurst Community Church Sunday at 2 p. m-. with the Rev. Roscoe Prince, pastor, officiating. McMillan told an in teresting story of a visit to a mission field, Mrs. G. E. Griffin presented a reading on “Witness ing in Peru,” and Miss Bessie Cameron read a poem entitled “It All Depends.” As a devotional service Mrs. A. G. Edwards, Jr., read the eighth Psalm and Mrs. H. A Borst told of “A Short Missionary Pilgrim age” to Puerto Rica, 2ifter which the meeting was closed with the reading in unison of a prayer poem. Fant Steele, Jr., and five young people of the Methodist Church attended the youth rally Friday, held in con nection with the Methodist Youth Conference in session at Duke University last week. In the group were Sophia, Sylvia and Mary Lyim Oldham, Bonnie Callahan and Ann Edwards. .Attend Conference Mrs. Henry Klingenschmidt, who teaches in Aberdeen, and Mrs. Jack Morgan, of the Carth age School faculty, both of whom live in Vass, attended the Home Economics Conference held at Woman’s College in Greensboro from Monday through Friday of last week. They, with Mrs. Sadie Maimer of Aberdeen, who heads the home economics department of Vass-Lakeview School, and Miss Juanita Harrell of the Rob bins School, drove up together each day, spending the nights at home. Men's Club Meets The Methodist Men’s Club met in monthly session Thursday evening in the fellowship hall of the church, with a group of church women serving them a dinner which they have compli mented highly. Home From Hospital Franklin Matthews, who has been hospitalized for several weeks, first at Oteen, then at Swaimanoa, came home Satur day and is much improved. Mr. and Mrs. Alton Matthei^s of Lak^view drove to Swannanoa to bring him back. Florida Visitors Mr. and Mrs. Jamie Hartsell of Tampa, Fla., spent part of last week as guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Doss. Mr. HartseU grew up in the neighbor ing town of Cameron. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Muse en tertained Mr. and Mrs. Hartsell at dinner at Howard Johnson’s on Wednesday evening. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Bill Cooper and daughter, Kay, of Sanford visit ed Mrs. Cooper’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Abernathy, Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Foster and Miss Carol Foster left Monday for Myrtle Beach, S. C., to spend several days. Mrs. T. Fant Steele’s mother .and sister of Rock Hill, S. C., came Saturday and she and the baby, Melinda Ruth, returned home with them to spend about tv/o weeks. The Rev. Mr. Steele is serving as counselor at Camp Monroe, Presbyterian camp near Laurinburg, which is being used for a group of Methodist young people this week. He will fill his appointment here Sunday morn ing, then join his family at Rock Hill for a week’s vacation. Nancy and Norman Keith of Sanford visited their grandmoth er, Mrs. W. H. Keith, Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. James Key and Betty and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Caddell and sons, Herbert, Jr., and Wayne, spent Sunday at White Lake. Mrs. I. W. Key spent last week in Durham, visiting her sister, Mrs. Mary Morgan. Mrs. C. L. Tyson and Mrs. S. R. Smith visited the latter’s sis ter, Mrs. W. T. Cox, in Sanford Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Cox ex pects her daughter, Mrs. Sam j Lewis, Mr. Lewis and their two children to arrive Saturday from Accomac, Va., for a visit. Mr. and Mre. J. C. She was the widow of J. A. McCaskill who died in 1934. She is survived by one daugh ter, Mrs. Edith Raymond of Pinehurst; two sons, Frank and Hubert McCaskill of Pinehurst; six grandchildren; one brother, D. A. Dunn of Biscoe; and two sisters, Mrs. Lum Sanders of Saxapahaw, and Mrs. J. F. Luck of Cedar Falls. Rites Conducted At Baptist Church For Mrs. Howard Mrs. Constance Howard, 70, died Sunday at Moore Memorial Hospital. iSineral services were conducted Monday at 2 p. m. at the First Baptist Church by the Rev. Hoke Coon of Forest City, a former pastor. Burial followed in Mount Hope Cemetery. She was a native of Green ville, S. C., and had lived in Tiiomasville for a number of years. With ' her husband she moved to Southern Pines in 1946, and owned and operated How ards Bakery. Surviving are her husband, M. L. Howard; one daughter, Mrs. Paul McKihnbn of Valley Stream, N. Y.; two sons. Manly of Morristown, Tenn.; and Rob- ■ert of Sotithem Pines; 12 grand children; two sisters, Mrs. T. C. Carson of Johnson City, Tenn. and Mrs. Albert Bright of Roch ester, N. Y.; and one brother, Dave Long of Rochester, N. Y. During the first half of 1957, fed cattle prices averaged be tween $2 and $3 higher than the first half of 1956.
