ALONZO BLUE Carthage Music Club The Carthage Music Club was entertained last Friday night by Mrs. C. G. Spencer at her home, with Mrs. C. G. Spencer, Jr., as sistant hostess. Upon arrival at 6:30, the club was served a delightful buffet supper. The Valentine motif was carried out in the table appoint ments and the dining room. Devotions were conducted by the chaplain, Mrs. John Cline. The roll call was answered with cur rent eyents. Mrs. C. G. Spencer, Jr., was program leader. Mrs. Myrton StewEirt read a poem and talked about the Federation Hymn of the month, “Breathe On Me, Breath of Life,” by Edwin Hatch, and the club sang one verse of the hymn, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. M. J. McPhail. Compositions by Rudolph Friml were used on the program. Mrs. J. K. Roberts gave a sketch of the composer’s life, after which Mrs. Dudley Pendleton sang “Giannina Mai,” accompanied by Mrs. T. N. Frye at the piano, and Mrs. H. G. Poole played “Moon Dawn.” Mrs. Frye played another of Friml’s compositions, “Rose Marie.” The delightful program closed with piano numbers and impersona tions by Mrs. M. G, Dalrymple. The club will celebrate its 48th anniversary next Tuesday, Febru ary 11, meeting with its first president, Mrs. M. G. McPhail, at whose home the first meeting was held. Sorosis Meets Mrs. Baxter Paschall’s home on Saunders Street was the January meeting place of the Sorosis, with Mrs. Jud Rea as co-hostess. The business session consisted of reports from the committees on the Community Club, Scouts, welfare and membership. The hostess served a cong^led salad plate and coffee. Personals Mrs. W. G. Caldwell is visiting her son-in-law and daughter. Dr. and Mrs. Henry Horn, in Fairfax, Va. Mrs. L. R. McDonald, Mrs. C. J. McDonald and Misses Kate and Bess McLeod were spend-the-day guests of Mrs. C. F. Leavitt, in Pinebluff, Tuesday. J. A .Lang, Jr., of Washington, D. C., sp^nt Sunday here with relatives after attending the Jef ferson-Jackson Day dinner in Raleigh Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. John R. Gopd- night of the Myrtle Beach Air Base, spent the weekend with Mrs. Goodnight’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Penninger. Mrs. P. F. Harris and daughter, Beth, of Chapel Hill were here last week for a visit with Mr. and Mrs.dJ. H. Parks. Miss Dorothy Warren of Ral eigh was a recent weekend guest of the J. A/ McColmans on Sun set Drive. Mrs. W. H. Currie spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Har ry Tuggle in Martinsville, Va. Miss Gladys Watson spent the weekend with the Rev. and Mrs. L. C. Larkin in Mount Gilead. Mrs. J. A. McColman has ac cepted a- teaching position in the elementary school at Vass-Lake- view. Mrs. Mae Davis is a patient in Moore Memorial Hospital, having undergone surgery Friday. Mr. and Mrs. William Shields of Martinsville, Va., are here this week with his mother, Mrs. R. S. Shields, , and brother, S. W. Shields, due to the serious illness of Mrs. S. W. Shields, who under went surgery Monday at Duke.
