Page SIXTEEN THE PILOT—Southern Pines, North Carolina THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 1958 March of Dimes, Short of Goal, Goes To Feb. 15 Six communities . of Moore County have surpassed their quotas in the March of Dimes, oiie is fast heading that way and the other 12 have made no re ports, according to Campaign Treasurer C. H. Bowman of Southern Pines. Little River Township, newly added to Moore, with a quota of $100 has given $156.64. The small community of Farm Life turned in $117.01 to more than double its $50 goal. Cameron, with $200 quota, re ported $222; Niagara, quota $30, reports $50; and from Parkwood, with $50 goal, came $53.34. West End contributed its quota of $300. Southern Pines, with the larg est quota—$1,750—has turned in $1,297.50, though Chairman Paul C. Butler said he has about $200 more on hand. It all adds up to $2,196.49 to ward the county quota of $7,660 Campaign Director J. Frank Mc- Caskill cf Pioehurst urges that all community chairmen report their current standings to Treas urer Bowman at once, so it. can be seen how much work remains to be done. A two-week exten sion of time has been made to wind 'up all campaign affairs, with February 15 the new dead line. CLASSIFIED ADS XHE PILOT P. O. Tel. 3-5241 Family of Five, Three Others Hurt In Collision Near Carthage Saturday A head-on collision on Highway 15-501 six miles east of Carthage Saturday afternoon sent an entire family—father, mother and three children—to Moore Memorial Hos pital with injuries and also hurt three other persons. Some of the various injuries were serious but not critical. According to Highway Patrol man H. A. Hight, who investigat ed, the accident involved a Chev rolet driven by James Curtis Pressley ef Carthage and a pick up truck driven by Willie Eugene Williams, 20, Route 3, Carthage. Patrolman Hight said the two ve hicles were going in opposite di rections when the Williams truck swerved across the center line and struck the 1953 Chevrolet “almost headon.” The Chevrolet, carrying Press ley’s family, was going east on the highway enroute to Sanford. Wil liams’ truck was headed toward Carthage wTien the accident oc curred. Patrolman Hight said the truck had been reported as weav ing in the road prior to the col lision, and there was some possi bility that its left front tire blew out. The accident occurred dur ing Saturday’s rain on a straight stretch of road. “Charges are pending,” Hight said, “until the victims are re leased from the hospital.” Pressley, driver of'the Chevro let, received broken ribs and la cerations. His wife, Polly Mae, suffered a dislocated hip and mis cellaneous lacerations to head and face. Passengers in the car were the couple’s children, Linda Mae, 10, who received lacerations of the nose; Roger Blue, 14, chest bruises; and James C. Pressley, Jr., 7, abrasions of nose and face. The Pressley family was taken to Moore Memorial Hospital in an ambulance. Willie Williams, Negro driver of the truck, had a badly broken jaw, lacerations of throat and jaw, and multiple bruises. He has been transferred from Lee County Hos pital to Duke where he was to undergo ten days further treat ment. Two passengers in the Williams truck were also treated at Lee County Hospital. George Ingram, 17, of Vass, was released after treatment for severe bruises and lacerations of the chin. Floyd Barrett of Sanford is still con fined to the hospital with lacera tions of the forehead. The 1952 GM truck which was destroyed was valued at $100; the Pressley Chevrolet was estimated to be worth eight to nine hundred dollars. Cows prefer loose salt to block salt fed as a supplement.
