MAY 1. 1958 THE PILOT-—Southern Pines, North Carolina By SALLY AUMAN Haxis«ll>WyIie The wedding of Miss Beverly Wylie of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Eglin Air .Force Base, Fla, and Harvey Hartsell of Eglin Field, son of Mr and Mrs.. Melvin Hartsell of West End, was sol emnized April 12 at 8 o’clock in the evening in an impressive double-ring ceremony which was performed in the Chapel of the Air Base with Lt. Hughes, Base Chaplain, officiating. The bride, given in mariage by Tech. Sgt. Bill Wright, wore a ballerina-length dress of white embroidered satin with a shoul der-length veil of illusion. Her flowers were white orchids. Miss Joan Allison, maid of honor, wore a ballerina-length dress of lime net over taffeta with a matching bandeau. Her flowers were white roses. WEST END NEWS The groom had as his best man, John Rosso, with Rox Walters and Bobby Norman, both of Eg lin Field, serving as ushers. A reception honoring the young couple was held at the Danner Service Club immediate ly following the ceremony. Attending the wedding from West End were Mr. and Mrs. Melvin'Hartsell with Sandra, and Mr. and Mrs. Winford Williams With Janet. , Bible Study The Women of the Presbyteri an Church had an intensive Bible study Thursday evening on “Meet Dr. Luke.” The Spiritual Life Committee, composed of Mrs. G. A. Munn, Mrs. Carl Rit ter, and Miss Neolia , McCrum- men, was in charge of the meet ing. Mrs. Munn gave an introduc tion to the study which was fol lowed by the group enjoying iMid l^ines Club —and— Golfotel Southern Pines. The study was completed by Mrs. George Houck and Mrs. Clyde Auman. Special guests were Miss Vista Markham, Mrs. Marion Currie, Miss Sawyer Fowle, Mrs. Flonnie Dobson, and the girls of the Senior High Fellowship. Junior Chqir The Junior Choir of the Pres byterian Church sang “Little Lambe Who Made Thee” at the Sunday morning worship service. New members of the choir who sang for the first time were Wan da Brady, Brenda Dunn, and Donny Whisnant. The faculty of the school hon ored Principal J. F. Sinclair with a surprise birthday party Friday afternoon. Refreshments were served and the honoree was rem embered with gifts. Mrs. R. B'. Lewis was recently installed as an officer in the Aberdeen Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Friday evening dinner guests Of the Rev. and Mrs. George Houck were Miss Frances Ivery, Dean of Women at Flora Mac donald College, and Miss Marga ret Bowen and John Williams, members of the faculty at Flora Macdonald. Saturday evening supper guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dickens and Brenda Gail of Varina. Mrs. Perry Gallimore of the Jackson Springs community has been elected to serve as a direct or of the Division of Women’s Work of the Farm Bureau. Promoted Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Melvin vis ited their daughter, Pat, in Dur ham last Sunday. Pat, who is a physical therapist at the Veter ans Hospital there, had recently been promoted to supervisor. Promotions such as these are usually given following a year’s work but for Pat, it came fol lowing only six months’ duty. She has also received a certifi- Change cate of honor for a suggestion she presented for improving her field of work. This week Mrs. Melvin has visited Mr. and Mrs. John Caskey in Charlotte. PTA Program) The PTA enjoyed the program that had recently been given at the Lions Club Talent Show. The Mabe Family Band was present- ed by the program chairman, Mrs. J. C. Blue, which consisted of Rajrmond Mabe and his three sons. Of special interest was the playing of spoons along with banjos and guitars. A piano solo, “Whims,” was rendered by Lor etta Thomas with Brenda Rich ardson giving “The Prayer of Ruth Graham.” Principal J. F. Sinclair led devotions. The Nominating Conunittee, composed of Archie Farmer, Al ton Munn and Mrs. J. C. Blue, pre-, sented the following who were elected as officers for 1958-59: president, Mrs. Bob Youngblood; vice - president, Mrs. Elrie Thomas; treasurer, Z. B. Conrad; and secretary, Mrs. Archie Farm er. Miss Treva Auman’s 5th grade and Mrs. Vance Wilson’s 6th grade tied for the attendance prize. The group inspected the. first- aid room which had been fur nished this year as a project of the PTA. The Sandhill Furniture Corporation donated the bed and the room is now complete with first aid supplies, sheets and a mattress. Mrs. Bob VonCanon was chairman of the p^ject and serving with her were Mrs. Tar- rell Graham and Mrs. Bob Youngblood. Mrs. J. B. Barnette was a pa tient at Moore Memorial Hospi tal last week. The Senior Class left Saturday morning for Washington, D. C., where they wm sp^nd the week returning by Williamsburg, Va., where they will visit historic landmarks of that early American city. They will travel on a Queen City bus with Principal and Mrs. J. F. Sinclair and Miss Bert Mc- Crimen, Senior Class advisor, ac companying them. Monday evening dinner guests of Mrs. Nola Lewis were Miss Laland Patterson and Miss Vita Beeson of the Moore Memorial Hospital. Spending the weekend in Bur lington with Mrs. Helen Tommey are Mrs. A. J. Hanner with Julia and Heath. They will attend a talent show there presented by the Western Electric Corporation. Mrs. W. M. Thompson gave a review ,of the Bible study at the Women of the Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church meeting, Tuesday evening. The program was given by Mrs. Edgar Graham on “The Nature and Mission of Page SEVEN the Chiuch.” Honoring Mrs. M. C. McDon ald, Sr., on her birthday Wednes day were Mrs. McDonald, Jr., and Mrs. Allan McDonald at her home. The guests were Mrs. Vic toria McKenzie, Miss Janie Clark,, Miss Maggie Donaldson, Mrs. Lena Sullivan, Mrs. J. E Currie, Mrs. C. W. Ritter, Mrs. Minnie Morris and Mrs. Claude Auman.
