THEATRES SUMISE Two ‘■’giants” of the screen meet head-|bn for the first time when Clark Gable and Burt Lan caster are pitted against each other in “Run Silent, Run Deep,” a hard-hitting story of World War 2 underseas warfare, which will open Sunday at the Sunrise ’Theatre and run through Wed nesday. The two are paired as a sub marine commander and his ex ecutive—each with strong and violent emotions that erupt in the heat of combat—in the John Gay screen-play based on the best selling novel by Commander Ed ward L. Beach. The U. S. Navy, anxious to pre sent the submarine service in an authentic manner, went all-out in cooperation. The USS Redfish, a fleet submarine with a brilliant World War 2 record, was detail ed to the production and “plays” the “role” of the USS Nerka, the submarine of the screenplay. The Navy cooperated in every phase of the planning, supplied a destroyer and other vessels for aid in the filming, and even fur nished a half-million dollars worth of equipment to assure complete authenticity in the sets. Rear Admiral Rob Roy Mc Gregor, colorful and much-deco rated submariner of World War 2, assisted Director Wise as Tech nical advisor.
