Sabiston of Carthage was elected president of the Con ference of Local Bar Presidents at the annual meeting of the North Carolina State Bar Asso ciation held this past weekend at Myrtle Beach, and Lawrence McN. Johnson of Aberdeen was named chairman of the Young Lawyers Section of the associa tion. The terms of both are for one year. Sabiston is ^a practicing attor ney in Carthage and is substitute Judge of Recorder’s Court. He has also filled in on occasion for the Solicitor. • Johnson, who is a partner with his father, J. Talbot Johnson, in the firm of Johnson and John son, will head up the group known as the “junior bar.” The “junior bar” is a separate organization of lawyers within the framework of the state asso ciation and carries on its own program. Several other attorneys from the county attended the meeting, which was highlighted by pre- Vass Man Finds People Are Honest Buster Cameron of Vass was pretty much put out recently while shopping, in Aberdeen when he reached for his wallet and found that it was missing. ■To make it doubly bad, he had just had his pay check cashed before leaving V'ass. He hurried back to Hudson’s Service Station where the check had been cashed and with James Hudson, the proprietor, made a mental check of people who were there at the time, hoping one of them had found it. They made inquiry of “Woot- sy” McCrimmon, colored, who had been there and through his honesty Cameron was united with his cash. McCrimmon had found the pocketbook after Cameron had driven off, had hunted, up Chief A. R. Laubscher and had gone with him to Cameron’s home trying to find him' to re turn the wallet. He was reward ed with a gift of cash and warm thanks. ' James Warman, Part Owner Of Dunes Club, Dies James S. Warman, a popular figure in Southern Pines, and] part owner of the Dunes Club, died last Thursday night in I Providence, R. I., where he main tained his summer home. Mr. Warman, it was learned) here, had been to the races near Providence and was stricken as he returned home. He died a few hours later in Roger Williams | General Hospital in Providence. Born in New Castle, New I Brunswick, Canada, he was 61. He moved to Providence as a I child and came to Southern Pines 1 a number of years ago. In addition to the Dunes Club) he was also owner of the May- fair Apartments on May Street) and operated a stable. He was known throughout the country as an owner of trotting horses and kept several at the Pinehurst) 'Tracks during the season. He had been a member of the Greensboro Lodge of Elks, the United Trotting Association, the Pinehurst Driving and Training Club, and the Standardbred 1 ifOwners Association. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Purcell Warman a daughter, Mrs. James J. Dunn of Providence; and a grandchild. Funeral services were held in) Providence.
