PAGE TWELVE THE PILOT—Southern Pines, North Carolina THURSDAY, JULY 17, 1958 Dedication Of New Hospital Slated At Fort Bragg Ceremonies honoring an heroic medical aidman who lost his life during the Korean War will be held August 3 as the new Wom ack Army Hospital at Fort Bragg is dedicated. Named after the late PFC Bry ant H. Womack of Rutherford County, the hospital will re place* the present hospital at Fort Bragg, drab, temporary wooden buildings in the area ad- jament to where construction workers are now putting the fin ishing touches on the modern, concrete and steel nine story building. The hospital’s capacity Will be 500 beds. The building, is design ed for easy expansion if the need should arise. Several high-ranking digni taries from national and North Carolina government agencies will attend the ceremonies. In cluded, it is understood from Fort Bragg public information sources, are several from South ern Pines and Pinehurst. Pvt. Womack was awarded the' Medal of Honor for courage in battle while serving with the 25th Infantry Division in Korea. ABERDEEN NEWS By CATHERINE McN. BURNS Woman's Club M^ls Mrs. J. G. She showed many in- Two Foursomes Tie In Morco Golf Tournament Two foursomes tied for first place in last week’s Moore Coun ty Golf Club’s tournament, a med al play, better ball of all four partners event. One team was composed of M. Wicker, G. Short, H. Maples and E. Ray, and the other had P. Tufts, F. Gramelsbach, C. Herman and R. Gouger. Both teams fired 31- 34—65. The winning team will be decid ed by a draw. Play this week will be a better ball of pair par bogey tournament. Next week the event will be a “substitute par for two worst holes” on an individual medal play basis. Curbs, Gutters On Two Streets Completed Here Completion of curbing and gut tering projects on two streets and sidewalk construction on an other was announced here this week. Town Manager Louis Schei- pers, Jr., said that private con tractors had completed curbing and guttering East Rhode Island between May and Ridge Streets, and East New* Jersey between May and Ridge. Paving of those two sections will be started in the next 10 days. A concrete sidewalk was con structed, he added, on the east side of Bennett between Penn sylvania and New York Avenues. The U. S. textile industry spends annually about $16,000,- 000 for paint and approximately $7,000,000 for hardware. Soil Conservation Leaders Meet In Carthage Monday Soil Conservation supervisors from three counties—Lee, Moore and Harnett—attended the quar- teriy meeting of the Upper Cape fear Soil Conservation district held Monday night in Carthage. James Fulk of this county, chairman of the district, presi ded, and announced an area meeting for August 3-5 at Dur ham. He said supervisors from nine Southeastern states and Puerto Rico would attend the meeting. Accepts Belhesda Pastorale Dr. and Mrs. W. C. Neill and four children will arrive in Aberdeen Friday, July 18. Dr. Neill, ffir the past seven years pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Helena, Ark., has ac cepted the call to become pastor of the Bethesda Presbyterian Church and will preach his first sermon as pastor on Sunday, Au gust 3. After their arrival here on July 18 and the placement ot their household furniture in the manse, they will go on to Roan oke, Va., for a visit with Dr. Neill’s mother, before taking up his Bethesda duties. Attend Camp Durant Twelve members of the local scout troop attended camp at Camp Durant last week. Those attending were: Victor Grose, Roger Puckett, Stevje Moss, George and Frank Farrell, Mike Wilson, Gray Keith, David Fun derburk and Billy Wicker, Sid ney Taylor, Larry Muse, Jackie and Jimmy Dowless. Brief Mention Paul Jordan, Jr., of Raleigh visited Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mc Neill and sons over the weekend. Mrs. Grace Monroe and Francis Monroe visited Fred Rogers, Mrs. Monroe’s brother, in Clinton on Sunday. Mr. Rogers is ill. Mr. and Mrs. Linwood Bird and family of Atlanta, Ga., spent last week visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Bird. Mrs. Harry Watson is a patient at Moore Memorial Hospital hav ing had minor surgery. Mrs. Gordon Keith and sons and Mrs. Robert Mobbs and chil dren spent last week at Windy Point. Miss Frances Pleasants, Miss Rose Fiske, Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Pleasants, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Leach spent the weekend at Blowing Rock. Polly Leach is spending several weeks visiting Mr. and Mrs. Frank Elliott and children in Chattanooga, Tenn. Mr. and Mrs. James Muse and children and L. P. Sugg spent Sunday in Greensboro. Miss Leah Samuels of High Point spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Samuel and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Guion and children of Durham visited rela tives here Sunday. Weekend guests of Mrs. C. C. Bethune were Mr. and Mrs. Colin Bethune of Washington, D. C., Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Townsend and sons of Laurinburg, and Mr. and Mrs. T. J. McManus and Martha Ann., Patsy Blue spent Tuesday night in Maxton visiting friends. Mrs. Fred Kinlaw of Fayette ville spent several days this week with Mrs. H. L. Marks. Mrs. Johnny Marks and chil dren and Miss Pearl McMillan were Raleigh visitors Tuesday. The Rev. and Mrs. Carl John son and family are Vacationing in Wilmington and the coast for several weeks.
