Page TEN HAD BEEN ASSISTANT Johnston Succeeds Poindexter As Eighth Division Highway Engineer The State Highway Commis sion has announced appointment of T. C. Johnston, Jr., of South ern Pines to the position of Eighth Division Highway Engi neer, succeeding ,T. G. Poindex ter who is retiring. Johnston moved into the post on April 1. He was Assistant Di vision Engineer from 1954 until last May when he became Acting Division Engineer during an ill ness of Poindexter. Appointed to the post of As sistant Division Engineer, also effective April 1, is Henry Jor dan who has served as Resident Engineer for the Eighth Highway Division since 1954. In announcing the appoint ment, Highway Director W. F. Babcock said be is pleased that two of the Commission’s long time employees could be elevated to the higher positions and paid tribute to the long and capable service of retiring Engineer Poin dexter. As Division Engineer, John ston will have supervision over construction and maintenance work for over 6,000 miles of pub lic roads and highways in the eight County area of Chatham, Randolph, Lee, Hoke, Moore, Montgomery, Richmond, and Scotland. Division offices are in Aberdeen. Johnston is a native Of Burling ton ahd is married to the former Belle Matheson of Salisbury. He is a deacon of the Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church of Southern Pines and a member of the N. C. Society of Engineers. He came with the Highway Com mission in 1924 as a rodman after majoring in Civil Engineering at North C§rolina State College.
