Roy Phillips, member of the Moore County School Board, spoke to the Lions Club Thurs day evening at a dinner meeting at Knowlton’s Restaurant. Mr. Phillips spoke in behalf of the consolidation of the high schools of this county, stressing the fact that the county is far behind in this project, and pointing out the advancement already made in other counties, using Durham and Mecklenburg as examples. The club had 100 per oent attend ance. The School Board and Principal R. P. Johnson were in vited guests. Reception home of the bride.” Church Circles Meet The Circles of the Methodist Church met Monday evening. The Minnie Morris met with Mrs. Tom Lewis, with Mrs. John Branson presenting the program. Mrs. M. J. Davis was hostess to the Margaret Brown circle. Mrs. W. A. Johnson conducted devo tions and Mrs. D. D. Richardson had the program. Circle HI met with Mrs. Ralph Fowlkes. Mrs. Francis Currie, Jr., led the devo tions and program. Circles of the Presbyterian Church met Monday evening with Church Extension as the program topic and a Bible Study on 1st Peter. Mrs. Bob Young blood was hostess to Circle 1 with Mrs. Earl Auman giving the program and Mrs. G. A. Munn as moderator of the Bible Study. Circle 2 met with Mrs. Clyde Au man. Mrs. Archie Farmer was moderator and Nancy Auman had the program. Mrs. Melvin Hartsell was a special guest. Mrs. John Thompson was hostess to Circle 3. Mrs. M. C. McDonald presented the program and Mrs. George Houck was moderator of the Bible Study. Brief Mention Lt. and Mrs. George Houck, Jr., with Terrie, of Panama City, Fla., spent Monday and Tuesday with the Rev. and Mrs. Houck. Terrie will visit her grandparents while Lt. and Mrs. Houck get set tled in Jackson, Tenn. Mrs. Hawley Poole was hospi talized several days last week at Moore Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Charlotte Cox Hunsucker had an appendectomy at St. Jo seph’s Hospital last week. Sunday dinner guests of Misses Bert, Neolia, and Valeria Mc- Crummen were Mr. and Mrs. John McCrummen with Mac of Aberdeen. ’The Rev. and Mrs. George Houck were Friday evening din-< ner guests of the Rev. and Mrs. Bob Sloop in Lumberton. It was a happy Mother’s Day for Mrs. Nola Lewis whose fam ily spent the day with her. Pres ent were Mr. and Mrs. Robert McCracken, with Sandra, of Hamlet; Mr. and Mrs. Loman Gordon and Gail of King; Mrs. Clarence Patterson with Kay and Ann of Carthage; and Clyon Lewis and son. Bill, of Kannapo lis. Mr. and Mrs. North Lewis, Rick and Chuck, spent the week end at their cottage at the beach. En route home, the party called on the Rev. and Mrs. Pearce Layfield of Tabor City. Accompanying Chris McDon ald home for the weekend was his fraternity brother Charles Siewert of Louisville, Ky. Mrs. M. C. McDonald, Jr., with Chris, Mac, and their guest, had Sunday dinner with the W. J. Sutphin family. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lewis spent several days last week in Burns ville with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wade Honeycutt. While there they took Mrs. Honeycutt home from the hospital where she shad been recuperating from, a broken pelvis. Attending the races at Dar lington, S. C., Saturday were Mp. and Mrs. Bob VonCanon, Mr. and Mrs. Richard VonCanon, and Bill VonCanon. The Bob Youngbloods- spent Sunday in Charlotte with his mother, Mrs. J. F. Youngblood. The A. J. Hanner family spent Mother’s Day' in Liberty with Mrs. W. M. Hanner. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Flynt. Mr and Mrs. Douglas Clark of Lumberton were hosts to Mrs. Minnie Thompson at dinner on Mother’s Day. Other members of the family present included Miss Emily Thompson of Charlotte, who is spending this week with her mother; Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson, with Andy and Mar tha; and Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Sut phin who stopped in Lumberton en route home following a week end at their cottage at Shallotte. Mrs. Robert Henderson was hospitalized over-night FViday at Moore Memorial Hospital. Clifton Munn was home from High Point College for the week end. Accompanying Billy Jackson home from UNC, Chapel Hill, for the weekend was Eberhard Boecker of Germany, who is also a student at the University. Miss Florence Shellburn of Greensboro accompanied Miss Tressie Auman home for the weekend. Other members of the Auman family at home for Sun day were the Henry Brewers and Donald Gunters of Sanford, the Lloyd and Howard Auman fam ilies of Fayetteville, the Ray mond Aumans of Aberdeen, the Glenn Aumans of Hillsboro and the Earl and Clyde Aumans. It was a family get-together for Mrs. Beulah Womack on Sun day evening at the Earl Auman home. All the family was present which included the Rudy and Monk Womacks of Carthage, the Buck Womacks of Charlotte, and the Gentry Womacks of Greens boro. News has been received from Mrs. Quinton Smith and Mrs. R. B. Donaldson that they are en joying a 14-day tour of several European countries with the Bruce Donaldsons. The West Enders have reservations for the Queen Elizabeth, which will sail from England May 21. A. Pippin of Rockingham, district forester, and Travis Wick er, Moore County forest warden, made their annual appearance before the Moore Board of Coun ty Commissioners last week seek ing funds for the next fiscal year. The total amount requested of the county was $9,458.40, a figure which Mr. Pippin said was ex tremely low when compared to the amount of work and protec tion it provided. The State, he said, would ap propriate as its share of the bud get of $23,646, a total of $14,- 187.60. The commissioners will prob ably go along with the budget, observers felt.
