The president, Mrs. Clay Parker pre sided over the business and Mrs. W. R. Griffin was assisted in pre senting the program by Mrs. Jack Martin, Mrs. M. F. Butner, Mrs. Joseph Adams and Mrs. R. G. McCaskill. Following th e met ing Mrs. M. F. Butner and Mrs. Winfred assisted the hostess in serving refreshments to the fif teen members attending. Entertain at Shower Mrs. E. G. Adams Sr. and Mrs. Jos.eph Adams entertained at a miscellaneous shower on Satur day night at the home of Mrs. E. G. Adams honoring Miss Patsy Paris who is to be married on June 26 to William Wilson of Southern Pines. Library Party The Pinebluff Library Associa tion is sponsoring a card party on June 18 at eight o’clock at the town hall. Everyone is invited to come and play the cards of your choice. Personals Caroline and Frederick Smith have gone to Cape Hatteras for a three weeks visit with their un cle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Smith. On Saturday after noon Mr. and Mrs. Winfred Smith drove the children to Sanford to the home of Mrs. James Smith’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Simp son. The Simpsons entertained at a cookout and the n later in the evening Caroline and Frederick attended a wedding. They left Sunday morning for Hatteras. Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Helms, Roy and Michael Helms of Sanford visited Mr .and Mrs. E. F. Pickier and Mrs. W. K .Carpenter Sr. Sunday. Mrs. A. B. Stump and daugh ters, Margaret, Mary, Nancy and Allison and a friend of Clinton arrived Monday for a visit with Mrs. Stump’s mother, Mrs. Hazel Allison. W. K. Carpenter Sr., and Joe Carpenter and daughters, Ann and Linda of Wagram attended the Pickier reunion at Albemarle Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Honry Butner of Elkin were overnight guests of Mr. Butner’s mother, Mrs. M. F. Butner last week. Mr. and Mrs. Redin Campbell of Jonesboro Heights^ visited Mrs. W. R. Water Super Poohs Pilot Terminology The Pilot has been taken to task for an article last week which dealt with the large num ber of turtles in the town lake. Ralph Mills, water superinten dent and the man who probably knows the lake better than any one else< vehemently denied the story. “Turtles, smurtles,’’ he said. “There’s not a single one in that water and I’m quite prepared to prove it.’’ What’s really there, he con tends, is terrapins. “Millions of ’em,’’ he mumbled. “Millions.” The editors of Webster’s Inter national Dictionary, Second Re vised edition, give a very fancy definition of both turtles and ter rapins, the meat of which is: ter rapins ARE turtles, though turtles ain’t necessarily terrapins.
