CLARA EDWARDS FREEMAN of Aberdeen, supervisor of the linen department at Moore Memorial Hospital in Pine- hurst, was the recipient of the “Employee of the Month” award for May. Mrs. Freeman has been associated with the hospital for 13 years, and holds one of the most responsible positions at the institution. She is very popular with all the personnel. Mrs. Freeman’s role at the hospital is rather unique, as her husband, A. B. Freeman has been chief engineer of the maintenance de partment since 1930 — barely a year after the hospital was opened. They make a fine husband-wife team with their splen did cooperation. They have a son, Allen Freeman of Wilmington, and a daughter. Flora Lee Reihm of Washington, D. C. Mr. and Mrs. Freeman are long-time members of the First Baptist Church in Aberdeen, where they are active in all phases of church work. This was the first time in 130 years that the U. S. Navy boarded and declared as a prize of war, an enemy vessel on the high seas. On. June 15, 1775, the Rhode Island State Assembly passed a law authorizing the fitting out of two sloops. This was the first time armed vessels were ever commissioned in America and was the start of the U. S. Navy.
