THURSDAY, JULY 2, 1959 Funeral Services Held Yesterday For Mrs. Thomas Mrs. Elizabeth Sandford Thomas, 74, died at her home Sunday. Funeral services held Wednesday at 10 a. m. at the Community Church with the Rev. Roscoe Prince, pastor, offi ciating. Burial followed in Oak- wood Cemetery in Raleigh with the Rev. Dr. Howard P. Powell, pastor of the Edenton Street Methodist Church, officiating. She moved to Pinehurst in 1932 after the death of her husband, Henry H. Thomas. She is survived by one son, Clarence W. Thomas; two daugh ters, Mrs. R. L. Vroom, Tulsa, Okla. and Elsie Thomas of Pine hurst, and six grandchildren. Twombley, 66, died at Moore Memorial Hospital Sat urday night. According to' his request, the body was cremated and there^ were no funeral services. Mr. Twombley came to this state from New Hampshire. He and his family settled on a farm, east of Manly, nearer thirty than twenty years ago. He had worked on the grounds and buildings of a good 'many residents of this town. The farm had been purchased originally because qf his wife’s sister, who was the wife of Preacher J. Fred Stimson. The Twombley farm adjoined the Stimson farm and the old Powell Orchard. Here on his land, Mr. Twombley raised his garden truck and took care of his live stock: chickens, pigs, goats and whatever else he could manage on his small farm. A true son of the soil, he spent his days making things grow: useful things and pretty things. He had a green thumb and much instinctive knowledge of the ways of nature. Mr. Twombley gave of his knowledge to others as he worked for various gardeners and homeowners of the Sandhills, whose flowers and shrubs will now miss his touch and whose owners hjs salty cheerful conver sation. Survivors include two daugh ters, Mrs. John Cameron of Asheboro and Mrs. Frank Sneedy of Bethlehem, N. H.; two sons, Roscoe of Winston-Salem and Wallace of Barium Springs; 11 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. To produce watermelons weighing 28 to 32 pounds each allow only two melons per plant.
