Directors of the North Carolina Association of Quality Restaurants 'will meet here tomorrow (Fri day) for a business Session which will include a talk by State Labor Commissioner Frank Crane. The meeting wil be held at Howard Johnson Motor Lodge, beginning at 2:30 p.m. President Frank P. Byrne of jWilmington will preside. He said that Crane will lead a discussion of a new minimum wage law J as it applies to the food service | industry in the state. The min imum wage law was voted in by the last General Assembly. : The association’s general coun sel, J. Melville Broughton, Jr., will present a legislative report. SANDHILLS PEACHES were going to mar kets all over the country this week as orchard men had their pack houses operating late into the night. The above picture was made at How ard Harrison’s pack house in Eagle Springs Monday as workers sorted out the fruit for eventual shipment to Detroit and Boston. Mr. Harrison, dean of Moore County s peach grow ers, is this year celebrating his 40th year in the business. He said that the dry, hot weather had caused some of the fruit to fail to achieve its normal size but said the market, greatly de pressed two weeks ago, is now picking up. (Pilot photo) Rites Conducted At Cypress Church For Mrs. Lawsou Mrs. Feby W. Lawson, 71, died Col. Cousland Is Buried Today At National Cemetery Friday at her home on Route 2, Vass. Funeral services were held Saturday at 4 p. m. at Cypress Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. "Mr. Norment, with burial in the church cemetery. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Beulah Wilson, Route 1, Broadway and Mrs. Roxie Cum mings, Route 2, Vass; and two sons, Otis Lee and Robert C. Lawson, both of Route 2, Vas; Colonel Cornelius W. Cousland, 58, died at Womack Army Hospi tal at Fort Bragg Monday morn ing after a long illness. Graveside services were held at one o clock today (Thursday) in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. A graduate of West Point in 1924, Col. Cousland came to South ern Pines in retirement two years ago. He was a native of New Mexico, and served in the Air Force 32 years, retiring in 1949. During World War 2 he led the 97th Bombardment Group of the Eighth Air Force and was in the air more than 1200 hours over enemy ammunition install.ations in'Europe. He was awarded the Distin gu,ished Flying Cross twice. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Kathryn S. Cousland; three sons, Cornelius W. Cousland, Jr., of Rockford, Ill., Theodore Vig- nead Cousland of Harrisburg, Pa., and Captain W. C Cousland of the Army; a stepson, Ted York of San Marcos, Texas; and two brothers, E. W. and John Cous- lana, both of Seattle It takes a woman every time —even to introduce the custom of honoring fathers. Mrs. John Bruce Dodd of Spokane, Wash., started Father’s Day in 1910.
