THURSDAY, JULY 30, 1959 THY PILOT—Southern Pines, North Carolina Page NI^ Several Staff Changes Are Made At WEEB Radio Several new faces and voices have been added to WEEB radio station during the past two weeks, according to Jack Younts, gen eral manager. Top change is that of Joe War ren, , member of the staff since WEilB went on the air in 1947 with the exception of 14 months military service. He has been ap pointed manager of WAKN in Aiken, S. C., a station that | Younts was instrumental in plac- j ing on the air in 1951. WAKN is a 1,000 watt station on the same 990 frequency as WEEB. Three new members have been added to the WEEB operating staff. Bill Briley, native of Green ville, N. C., and formerly with WNCT-TV in that nown; Paul M. Gold, Jr., native of Charlotte; and Joseph E. Watson, native of | Charleston, W. Virginia, who j worked with several radio stations in that state prior to coming here. Briley, who studied at the Na tional Academy of Broadcasting, will work as an announcer-pro ducer. Gold studied broadcasting at the University of North Caro lina and will work as an announ cer-newsman. Watson will be come chief engineer and will supervise the installation of a new 5,000 watt transmitter. Another new addition is Mrs. Carolina Judson, who has joined the business and traffic office. She was employed at WIS radio in Columbia, S. C., of which she is a native, and did a daily tele vision show. Her husband is with the Inspector General’s sec tion at Fort Bragg. Younts said that the. personnel changes were part of the upcom ing power increase of the sta tion from 1,000 watts to 5,000. Regan Fires Ace values in pilot ^ds In Capturing RUDY WOMACK, manager of the Carthage Hotel in Carthage, had the distinction of be ing the 85,000th patient at Moore Memorial Hospital in Pinehurst recently. He is shown in the above picture as he was recuperating from surgery; he returned to his home in Carthage the first of the week. The hospital was opened November 25, 1929, and will observe the 30th anniversary of service to the people of Moore County this fall. During IJie first full year of operation the hospital cared for 766 patients. It now serves about 6,000 patients annually. (Hemmer photo) Morco Tourney E. A. Regan of Southern Pines was the winner of the Morco Golf tournament last week, and, in addition to winning the tourn ament, he fired a hole-in-one to help his score along. The event was a medal play individual tournament substitut ing par for the two worst holes.. Regan had a net score of 61. His ace was recorded on the 119- yard ninth hole of No. 2 course and was the first in tournament play for the season. Second place went to Hollis Thompson of Pinehurst who had a net of 62; third place was won by A1 Claxton of Pinehurst who had a 65. The tournament now in pro gress is a par bogey, better ball of all four partners. Write to the State Department of Motor Vehicles, Raleigh, N. The Rev. and Mrs. Jack Martin returned Mickey Gatlin to the Methodist Orphanage in Raleigh Sunday , after having him with them: for the past three weeks. The death sentence is a severe penalty to pay for breaking a traffic law.
