Lynn of Baltimore announce the birth of a son, theii- first child, on Friday, August 7. The baby, who has been named John Richard, II, weighed eight pounds- Mr. Lynn is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lynn (Margaret Campbell of Southern Pines) of Baltimore, and Mrs. Bessie Swearingen of Sou thern Pines is the paternal great grandmother. Mr. Bowen win return this weekend to Bal timore where they have been liv ing, but will soon go to Chapel Hill where his family will join him. He has been awarded a" scholarship for study during the coming year at the UNC School of Public Health. Mr. and Mrs. J. Paul Jones and son, Joe, have gone to Hum boldt, Tenn., to attend the wed ding of their niece. Miss Rena Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Jones. Mr. and Mrs. Newland Phillips and children, Eugene, Jerry, Mar garet Ann and Bobby, of Port Lauderdale, Fla., arrived in Pitts- boro Monday to visit Mrs. Phil lips’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Craft. They plan to spend about three weeks visiting relatives, in cluding his mother, Mrs. W. M. Phillips of Highfalls, and broth er, T. Roy Phillips, and family of Carthage. Mr. Phillips was here Wednesday and he and his family will visit in Southern Pines— their former home town—before returning to Florida. Miss Grace Tillman was on va cation last week from the office of W. P. Still Oldsmobile. She vi sited her sister and brother-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. Ronny Brooks, of Boone and spent some time at Blowing Rock. Mrs. Harold Eastwood and children, Susan, Harold, Jr., and Doris, of Orlando, Fla., were weekend guests in the Culbreth- Eastwood home, and went from there to Raleigh to visit Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Massenburg. Capt. and Mrs. Mark Liddell, Mark, Jr., and Bobby, of Little Rock Air Force Base, Jackson ville, Ark., vacationed at Sara sota, Fla., and came to Southern Pines last Thursday to visit Mrs. Liddell’s mother, Mrs. Graham Culbreth, and family. Young John Harvey Liddell, who had been visiting the Culbreths for about six weeks, is accompany ing them home. Patterson of Manly has as her guests for a week three of her grandsons, Bobby, Lonnie and Charles Adams, and their friend Frank Waldorf, all of Haines City, Fla. They arrived Monday. Miss, Mary Scott Newton and Mrs. S. R. Smith were in Pine hurst Saturday as luncheon guests of Mrs. Mary Evelyn de Nissoff and Mrs. Marian Watt Phillips. Pvt. Claude Reams, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Reams of 605 East Massachusetts Avenue, after com pleting basic training at Fort Jackson, S. C., recently arrived in France, making the trip to Paris by plane. He is stationed near Bordeaux at a Medical De pot. Mrs. Frances Lundgren of Chapel Hill came today to spend a few days in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde G. Council. ‘ Mr. and Mrs. Jack Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Omer Newhouse, brothers-in-law and sisters of Mrs. J. Bruce Cameron of Manly, left this morning for their homes in Lawrence,Ind., after visiting in the Cameron-Richardson home since Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. David Gillis of Mount Olive visited their mo thers, Mrs. R. M. Gillis and Mrs. J. Bruce Cameron, last weekend. Their daughter, Barbara, who came with them, is remaining for a two weeks visit to relatives. Dr. and Mrs. A. C. Dawson and children, Donna, Ace and Linda, moved to Raleigh, Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. J. Case, Sr., until Monday- Their daughter Donna, was with her grandmother during the two weeks her parents were in the North, and she returned home to Marietta, Ga., with them. McQuay of Charlotte have announced the marriage of their daughter, Betty Louise, to John Edgar Wallace, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth M. Wallace of Pinehurst. Due to the serious illness of the bride’s father, the couple were married at his bedside in Charlotte’s Mercy Hospital on Tuesday, Aug ust 11, the wedding having been moved up from September 6. New Appointee Alvie J. Claxton of Pinehurst has been appointed to the Ag riculture Committee of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States. Siunmer Club Resulls Friday evening’s “new look” twilight golf tournament, a mixed foursome in which Morco and Sandhills Summer Club members competed, resulted in a win for Mr. and Mrs. William S. Ander son and Mr. and Mrs. William Burke, who turned in a net score of 22 for the seven holes of play in which each player was allowed a maximum number of four clubs. Three foursomes tieing for sec ond place, with a net score of 25, were Mr. and Mrs. Dennis C. Crqtty and Mrs. Frank Wells and Hollis Thompson; Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Derouin and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Rettew; and Mr. and Mrs. William C. Sledge and Miss Kit Sledge and Peter Tufts. After a get-together on the Club terrace, the particpants moved on to the Wedge Inn where they were join ed by several members and their guests who had not played in the tournament. The Sandhills Summer Club played its regular tournament Tuesday, a best six out of each nine event with 17 playing and three members tied for first: Mrs. William Burke, Mrs. M. T. Mrs. Donald Miller and her Dr. Taylor Wins Low Gross Honors In Summer Golf The 11th week of play in the Summer Golf program here was concluded Sunday with Dr. A. Taylor firing a 77 to capture first place in the low grdss category of the match play against par tournament. Top winner in the low net Category was Bill PurceU, who had an even score, followed by Don Murray at one-up, Chan Page, even, Henry Graves, one down. Will Wiggs, also one down, and Bob Page, one down. Behind Dr. Taylor in the low gross was Ed Comer with an 82 and Andy Page with 72.
