Wooten of Aberdeen has been employed by Carolina Power & Light Company as sales representative ^ in the company’s Southern Pines office, CP&L Manager Ward Hill has announc ed. Wooten recently completed a six-weeks training program with CP&L in Raleigh. Prior to that he had taught school in Laurin burg; was office manager and salesman for Geigy Chemical and Olin-Mathieson Chemical Corp.; and was in charge of production control for Amerotron Corp. He was graduated from Catawba College in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in business administra tion. Wooten is a U. S. Army veteran and holds the Purple Heart for wounds suffered while serving in the European Theater during World War II. The new salesman is a steward in the Page Mem orial Methodist Church at Aber deen and is active in the Ameri- The State Highway Comrnis-* sion’s secondary roads priority system, controversial in some places in the State, received the endorsement of the Moore Coun ty commissioners Tuesday. T. C. Johnston, Eighth High way Division engineer, with S. E. Swaringen of his staff, visited tho commissioners at their regular meeting to explain the system as it is being administered by Sec ondary Roads Director Harold Makepeace. Expressing their approval by voice vote, the commissioners or dered the drawing up of a resolu tion making it official. On information that the State Highway Commission would like to hold an early meeting in Moore, the commissioners ap proved the extending of an invi tation to be sent to W. F. Bab cock, state highway director, ask ing that the next quarterly meet ing be held in this county, and offering the facilities of the courthouse. Johnston listed 12 road pro jects he said had been approved for Moore according to the prior ity system, to cost a total of $156,- 200. The projects comprise 14.7 miles of secondary roads, to be completed or improved as the money becomes available. VAN ALSTINE ELECTED PRESIDENT Businessmen’s League Opens Bowling Season; Three Teams Tied For Lead Second Work-Day Planned Saturday At Bayliff Home Volunteer carpenters, amateur or professional, are invited to take part Saturday in another work-day at the home of June Bayliff, young Aberdeen man who is confined to a wheelchair as result of a shooting accident. An annex to the home, special ly designed to ease life for a per son in a wheel chair, is being built. At the first work-day last Saturday, wall studs and part of the sheathing were put up and sub-flooring was laid. Hubert Moss of Ashley Heights is in charge of the work. It is planned to get the roof on and shingles on the outside walls. Saturday. Bayliff has expressed his thanks to everyone who is help-, ing. He is married and the fath er of four children. Materials are being purchased from a fund raised by a fish fry staged by the John Boyd post. Veterans of Foreign Wars, of Businessmen’s League No. 1 opened the league bowling sea son at the OK Bowl Tuesday night and also elected officers for the coming year. The night’s play ended with Colonial Stores, VonCanon Fur niture and Denton Realty tied for first place in the standings. Robert Van Alstioe was named president by the league players. Other officers elected were Jim Johnson, vice-president; Joseph I Scott, secretary; and Richard Kobleur, treasurer. H. Wilkins of Colonial Stores rolled the high * single game of the night with 204, closely fol lowed by Tommy McNeil of VonCanon with 203.
