Page TWELVE THE PILOT—Southern Pine&> North Carolina THURSDAY, APRIL 21, 1960 New Exhibition Opens at Museum. “Award Winners—Part Two” opened at the North Carolina Museum of Art on Easter Sun day, Work by James Bumgardner and Duncan Stuart, both North Carolina artists, will be shown in the exhibition, which will be on view until May 15. The first show in the series, “Award Winners—Part One,” ap peared in the museum during the month of February, with the work of painters Robert Broderson, Robert Partin, and Rachel Chest er Roth, who, along with Bum gardner and Stuart, won awards in the Annual North Carolina Ar tists' Competition in December. Admission is free. CARTHAGE NEWS By MRS ALONZO BLUE Joe Pinkston, Jr., a member of the faculty of Fork Union Mili tary school in Fork' Union, Va., was home for the Easter holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Pinkston in Aberdeen and visited other relatives in the county. A number of relatives and friends were in Raeford Sunday to attend the funeral of J. C. Ben ner, a former Carthage native, son of Mrs. W. C. Benner and the late Mr. Benner. He died in Moore Memorial Hospital Friday night. Patterson and Mrs. Ralph Gilmore returned home and were acco.mpanied by Mrs. Maples and children for a visit to the county seat with relatives. Ray of Ashebor'O were recent visitors with relatives in Moore County and with Mrs. Dan Ray of South ern Pines attended church serv ices at Bethesda in Aberdeen, the former home town of Mr. Ray. Union Easter services were ob served in Carthage) including the Methodist, Baptist and Presbyte rian churches. On Thursday eve ning at 8 o’clock, communion services were held in the Presby- lerian church with the Rev. Rob ert Moore, bringing a message and Rev. C. A. Kirby, Jr., in charge of the communion service. Good Friday service was held in the Methodist Church, Friday night. Morgan Home on Leave Dennis Arthur Morgan, seaman apprentice, ‘USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Morgan of South ern Pines has graduated f:om basic training at the Naval Train ing Center, San Diego, Calif., and is home on 14 days recruit leave Morgan graduated from South ern Pines High School in 1959 and was active in sports. Upon completion of leave, he will reiwrt to NAAS Brown Field located at Chula Vista, Calif., for duty and training with the Navy Construction Battalion stationed there to deactivate Brown Field which is an auxiliary base foi helicopters. The duties of men in thg con struction battalion are to operate, maintain and repair all heavy duty equipment such as crane.s, giant earth moving scrapers, bull dozers, trucks and tractors along with constructing buildings, building roads and bridges also they learn to weld all types of metal using the latest methods.
