SMALLEST RETUH,NS The Cooperative Crop Reporting Service reported that the State’s gross farm income of 1,177.6 mil- Iion dollars represents only 515 5 million dollars net to the farmers of the State, and when the pur chasing power of a 1949 dollar is applied to this total, it shrinks to dollars. The State s 1959 net farm income is a reduction of 90 million dollars i THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8. 1960 from the 605.9 million dollars realized in 1958. Except for 1957, when income dropped to 453 8 million dollars, 1959 nkted the smallest returns to North Carolina farmers in more than a decade. GRADUATES - Graduates of Sanford Business College in cluding several Southern Pines young people, received diplomas m exercises at the Wilrik Hotel in Sanford recently. Lions Entertain Mem,bers of the faculty and staff of the Aberdeen elementary and high schools were guests of honor at the regular meeting of tile Lions Club on Friday evening. Lion President Ranall Thomp son presided and Lion Brooks Pat ten led the invocation. Lion J. C. Robbins was master-of-cere- monies for the evening’s events and Lion C. Wade Mobley, high school principal, presented the teachers to the group. Dr. Frederick L. Well man of Ria Piedros, Puerto Rico, and Creighton Wellman, now liv- East; a daughter, Mrs. Alice Wellman Harris of Los Angeles; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service for ivir French was held at La Feria Wed nesday ^ternoon. Graveside ser vices will be held at St. Pauls Cemetery at 5 p.m. Saturday.
