Bragg Invitational The Par Seekers of the South ern Pines Country Club partici pated last Thursday in the Ft. Bragg Golf Club’s Invitational tournament against the women members of that Club. Par Seeker Mrs. Richard Davis was the low gross winner in the second flight, and Mrs. William Donovan won low gross in the fourth flight. Following the play, hosts and guest members enjoyed ^ a delicious luncheon at the Club house. _ I In the Par Seekers t'ournament, played on the home course Octo ber 26, Mrs. N. L. Hodgkins, Jr. v,on first place honors and Mrs. Robert Strouse and Mrs. Charles Marcum tied for runner up posi tion in the match play against bogey contest. Yesterday’s tournament, a low net and low putts event, resulted in a win for Mrs. T. C. Worth, Jr. in the low putts class, with Mrs. Richard Davis winning low net. The devotional program, on the subject “Christian Education,” was presented by Mrs. Everett Walker and Miss Birdilia Bair. After the reports of the secre tary and treasurer, the chairman of each circle reported on the Oc tober meeting of her group. Fol lowing a discussion of old and new business, the four delegates who attended the Women’s Fall Rally at' Union Ridge Church, near Burlington, gave reports. Mrs. Everett Walker, Mrs Earl. Parker, Mrs. Elmer Donaldson and Mrs. Carl Wallace each gave a short resume of the portion of the program she had found most interesting. (Amelia) Crain and daughters, the Misses Louise and Pauline, were hostesses at a party last Thursday night in the Woodmen hall for members of Dogwood Grove No. 253 and friends. ’The hall was gaily decorated in the Halloween motif with paper pumpkins, black and orange bal loons and fall flowers. Mrs. Raywill Pearce brought the welcome and introduced Na tional Director and State Mana ger, Mrs. Ethel M. Donaldson, who explained in detail the insur ance and fraternal part of the So ciety. To bring out her point on the importance of being fully in sured, Mrs. Donaldson used an umbrella with items such as hos pital, doctor bills, taxes, etc., (we ail experience from time to time) painted on the umbrella. She de scribed how the various types of Woodmen insurance would help defray these and many other everyday expenses. Following Mrs. Donaldson’s speech, the evening was then spent in playing games with prizes given the winners. Prior to the social hour. Miss Louise Crain, on behalf of the Circle, presenteq Mrs. Donaldson a 3-piece dresser set for her be lated birthday. Mrs. C. E. (Katie) Lee baked and beautifully deco rated a three-tiered cake which cheese, cake and coffee were en joyed. Nineteen members of Dogwood Grove No. 253 pf the Supreme Forest Woodmen Circle met Tues day night for its regular monthly meeting and special rehearsal for the forthcoming convention Sat urday night in Fairmont. ^ Dogwood Grove team of eight “The Dogwoodettes”, captained by Mrs. Amelia Crain, will be respon sible for most of the floor work at Ine convention. Miss Mary Scott Newton will be serving as chap lain. Prior to the formal opening of the meeting, four Pine Camp members, D. E. Bailey, consul commander; Alvin Adcox, W. H. Hicks and T. Thomas met with tne circle members to present some business concerning the rental of the Woodmen hall to a local group to be used for worship services. During the business ses sion of the Circle much discussion centered around the proposition and for the time being, no defin- j ite decision was reached. Miss Louise Crain reported on the visit to the Reynolds Nursing Home halloween night. Trick or treat in reverse was played on the 19 members in the home. A package of homemade cookies and candies was given each patient. Mack of Lowell, the bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a portrait gown of silk tissue taffeta with long tapered sleeves and manda-, lin neckline of Chantilly lace, a full skirt, basque bodice with matching yoke, and a panel of lace accented with irridescent se quins and seed pearls in the skirt, circulating ard terminating in a full court train. Her four-tiered, hand rolled French illusion veil depended from a half crown of matching’ taffeta, lace and spc'^ pearls. She carried her maternai grandmother’s sterling silver ros ary and her paternal grandfather- er s prayer book, covered with hand painted, lace trimmed taf feta, a fleur d’arnour and a show er of stephanotis and streamers. Miss Maureen Miller, of Chelmsford, Mass., the maid of honor, wore an American Beauty velvet gown with a bandeau of leaves and velvet of a matching shade. The only other attendant. Miss Dee Devanney, of Reading, Mass., was similarly gowned and both carried cascade bouquets of ice pink roses, velvet ribbons and ivy. The bridegi'oom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William C. Horner, of 170 East Illinois Avenue, Southern Pines. His best man was Robert Lessard, of Washing ton, D. C. Ushers were Robert Fabry, of Paducah, and Roy Newton, Jr., formerly of South ern Pines, who is now a resident of Hackensack, N. J. A reception and dinner was held, following the ceremony, at Manning Manse, North Billerica, Mass. The bride’s cousin, Mrs. James Donahue, kept the guest register and Miss Isabelle Elias, of Pittsfield, Me. and Washington, D. C., acted as bridal consultant.
