A one-car wreck on the Whis
pering Pines Road, a mile and a>
half beyond Niagara, at 4:35 a. m.
Wednesday cost the life of one
Moore County man and seriously
injured another.
Robert Stoman Reynolds, 19, of
Carthage Route 3 died at St. Jo
seph’s hospital soon after admis
sion. He was married, an em
ployee of Fletcher Southern near
Southern Pines.
His companion, Judson Key,
about 40, also of Carthage Route
3, hospitalized with serious head
injuries could not be questioned
and State Highway Patrolman
Henry A. Hight, Jr., investigating,
said he could not immediately de
termine who had been driving and
what had caused the wreck.
Hight said the car, after rounding
a curve as it traveled toward Car
thage, was out of control for 345
feet, going off first on the right,
then the left, hitting a culvert,
and oyerturning into a deep ditch
from which it apparently bounced
bhck out onto the highway. The
1953 Chevrolet four-door, belong
ing to Ray Reynold.s, father of
I the dead youth, was demiolished.
Christmas tree lights should be
turned off when the family is
away from home.
The farmer got Only 38 cents of
the food dollar in 1959. He got 40
cents in 1940 and 53 cents in 1945
(the peak war year).
